The players on the park have been up for the contest to date, without winning; you would expect them to continue to try each game. That's all fans can expect.

If supporters bought tickets on the expectation we'd always be good, I have very little sympathy for them. Roly shouldn't be picking a team based on the expectations of fair-weather supporters.

I'm not suggesting the players aren't trying but, if we're to accept the premise that nothing went wrong and this is all part of a brilliant plan to set up for the future, then that's crook.

You can't be selling people full priced tickets to a show and then use it as a paid rehearsal.

I don't accept the premise myself but if it's going to be argued, then you have to look at a few of the consequences of it being true.

Irrelevant of Freo's game plan, Roly's coaching or Bondy's recruiting, Freo have injuries. Injuries hurt.

It's only Round 7 and already the teams that are fielding consistent starters are sitting pretty and those like Freo are not.
Norths, Geelong, Sydney, Adelaide, and the Slime are having a good year with few injuries. They have all had at least 19 players so far play 6 or 7 games of the season. Meanwhile, Freo have had 14 and Collingwood even worse with 12.

Again, injuries hurt, especially when they are your AA's.
But hey, let's keep blaming Roly and Bondy just for the fun of it.

I think RoLy has been treated very lightly by the football press - only one of them needs to laugh and say 'baloney' and a tidal wave of massive proportions will descend on Freo. If it was me, with only 28000 showing up at my last home game, I would keep away from the press and keep quiet.

Yes, sometimes the "fair weather" supporters choose to stay home.

Freo had 25000 show up to a home game in 2014 R14 vs Brisbane Lions.
Freo had less at the Freo vs Carlton game last year (with Freo on top of the ladder) than they did in Round 5 this year.
Sometimes the weather has an influence.

But don't let the details ruin your popular criticism of Freo.

Roly and the long Haul was a great story, I read it to my 5yo a while back.

It was about a big, smiley truck called Roly, who had to haul a huge load of cargo a very long way, for a very long time. Everything went well for a while, but things kept dropping off the back and breaking. But his boss was very nice and never shouted at him.

He got there in the end, but I can't remember exactly where that was. Stories for 5 yo kids tend to be light on for detail.

It would be nice to think we'd put in the effort regardless, and to a large degree I think we are. There's some nice (ish) footy starting to be played by some young players. Things don't have to be black and white here lads, its a process and in the back of your mind you can quietly think "what if next year is a bumper?" The psychology and philosophy around footy is often held to a single season, but whats so wrong with a 2 x season build (apart from a little fan dissatisfaction, short term pain, etc...)
In the story, was there any mention of when he arrived/got there? That'd be good to know.

So DK it's just the injuries that cause us to be last is it? Recruiting has been all fine and peachy dandy.

If someone said to you at the start of the year even with Johnno, Fyfe and Sandi out we'd be 0-7 or 0-8 and couldn't beat Carlton at home, you would have been okay with that?
