GWS ould have up to 6 academy players to bid on this year so they will need lots of points.. I am guessing they might use their really high picks on non academy players and try and get a lot of academy players after that.. We have lots of players out of contract that might only attract a 3rd round pick but GWS will be only really caring about points so two 3rd round picks might be enough for McCarthy or a combination of late picks adding up to a certain number of points

...but they won't risk pissing the AwFL Commission off. They'll deal out Cam for a second round pick - we can get one easy with an existing player. But it was dumb not to get him last year, it should've been done - it's cost the kid a year on the field, could be it's cost us even more.

Just new it was a matter of time when they would try to destabilize anything promising that could come our way. As for the Hagdorn piece on Eagles after McCarthy in WA Today? Just hope the boy really does want to be at home with us.

Polly, in case you missed it, no one got McCarthy last year. That's not Bond's fault. GWS would not talk to anyone to cut him loose.

Relax. Can anyone recall actual events panning out in the way Hackdorn's little pieces of fluffy whimsy predict? Put it another way - if he says it, it can't possibly happen!

Apparently GWS need to shed$600000 from their salary cap next year according to Barrett last night. This should help. Is it worth packaging up our first round pick, a player plus possible 2nd rounder, have a crack at Patton and McCarthy.

You would assume they've factored that into the contracts. Each year, until 2019, their list size and their salary cap drop a bit.

Remember, $600,000 is two average players.

Shane you may well be right, just trying to think out of left field. If GWS continue to have the same year that they are currently having then there will be players that will attract larger offers than they currently receive.

If we are looking seriously at Hogan, he is the marquee player at Melbourne and we will pay massive for him. . I previously thought we would be able to entice Hogan with the possibility of a successful club, but there has been a slight hiccup.I really don't think one top ten pick gets Hogan. Plus 1.5milliom for him 1.2million for Fyfe starts leaving very little for others.
Part of what you say that $600 000 is 2 average players. Maybe GWS need 2 average players, we have these. They will need to make judgement calls on which $600-$800 0000 they retain. They may also want to stay within salary cap with high quality young players on therefore lower wages.
GWS will be kicking themselves for knocking back our very generous offer last year for McCarthy, it may just give us an opportunity to have a reasonable negotiation in which both parties get what they want.

This years draft is apparently light on for KPP and any we get are 4 years off impacting.
I haven't watched much of Patton this year but before his injuries I liked him more than Cameron.

Does this make sense to anyone else?

I realise this is pie in the pie stuff but may provoke more interesting speculation than how we have stuffed everything up.

Is that the same Jesse Hogan that has kicked 18 goals and 14 behinds for Melbourne this season whilst the much maligned Jack Watts has contributed 17 goals and 4 behinds for the same time frame? I would suggest based on that some of the figures being bandied about are a little bit over the top.

Agreed DOD but that's what it will take to attract a young Key forward. Tom Boyd is not exactly carving it up.

It's usually around this time that Aaron Black's name pops up - he been kicking some big totals in North's VFL side (Werribee - 15 goals in 5 games, 2 x 4 goals).

Norths may not want to deal on Black as he will be the replacement for Petrie or Waite.
Was wondering why they were reportedly so keen on Neale would make sense that Neale replaces Del Santo/Wells.
They maintain an effective midfield and thre pronged attack. Black will find it much easier to kick goals in that structure.
Sounds like forward planning
