It dawned on me last night that freo are essentially tanking the season as of round 4. They have my full support. We certainly do not want any wins and good losses like that last night are perfect for our future given we will retain some semblance of confidence whilst still ensuring we get top picks.

Lyon will Simply try to sort the wheat from the chaf with the younger guys.

Would also like to see the back of Dawson but he should stay for continuity back there. He is a good defender.

Ibbo was giving up 22ks and 4.5 inches height on Patton last night in a key defensive post.

And next week he'll get Gunston or one of the Hawks zippy smalls. Apart from AA Johno name one other bloke on our list who also has that defensive versatility?

With 15 games to go, we've got the bottom 4 sewned up. Which should give us an easier draw next year, because we'll need it. There's no doubt that players like Mzungu, De Boer, C. Pearce, Zac Clarke will not be at our club next year. They've been replaced by Weller, Hughes, Blakely, Langdon and Tucker. Now the question is what do we do with our impending top 3 draft pick. Do we trade for a young KPP like Hogan or Lobb or even Mitch McGovern or do we just develop the pick.

Ibbo is 28 and has certainly peaked. If we are serious about rebuilding the list we get older players like that out. Lee Spurr is better and of a similar age. Goes without saying that mzungu should go as well as de boer.

D Pearce has been serviceable all year but was probably bog for freo last night. Keep him.

Maybe should also stay.

We're not tanking a couple of things that what worked against Adelaide the previous week were Mundy at half back, which wasn't the tactic against GWS - and also Walters coming through the midfield via the defensive side of the square - and this week we used Ballas in that role. Depending on your point of view its could be poor gameday coaching or it could be experimenting with different roles to see what works for the team in the future. Neither of these moves are new but its a way forward in trying to find out who is capable of filling those other roles when those players are shifted. The coach has talked about wanting flexibility in the past, but this is getting closer to actually implementing it.

Ibbo is a gun. Leading intercept mark, or one of at least in 13 or 14 was it?
Surely Mayne is a gonner???
He has done very very little for the past 2 years.
His tackles dont stick and he cant kick if he is ever lucky enough to get the ball.
I believe Tabs plays much better when Pav is not there....too similar, and with Mayne not wasting space you could have Fyfe/Bennell rotating/resting through that spot. Add M'Carthy and Son Son and bingo!
Who knows...the rest of the forwards might get some decent coaching and actually have an actual real life coordinated game plan....once they learn what that is.
