TOPIC: Ethan Hughes tonight

While Lyon has been adamant that Brady's disposal needs work, where in his two games did he actually 'butcher' the ball?. Against Carlton he spotted up several targets and gave some handballs that really opened up the play. Against Adelaide he missed a running shot at goal, but other than that, hardly executed poorly with his possession enough to say he 'butchered' it. Particularly when senior players of the likes of Sutcliffe, Mayne and Danyle Pearce have been crucifying the team weekly with disposals that are just killing the team on the turnover.

Grey is also showing some of the others how to friggn' stick a tackle. Against Carlton - Grey - 10 tackles, Sheridan - a big, fat doughnut...

I haven't seen Grey at WAFL level but he seemed to be loving it at AFL level. Hard at the ball, tackles that stuck, he wanted to be in the contest, he was having a hoot. Some players look timid when they get in the bigs but Grey looks like the type that thrives. Hopefully, he will get a go this week so he can see mum and dad as well.

Okay, I'm obviously not a fan, but can someone tell me what qualities Sheridan brings to the team besides a spiffy hair do?

Grey had a shot at goal against Carlton at a crucial time from about 40m out, on a 45 degree angle. Didn't make the distance, and was wide by about 20m. If that was a vet, he'd get hammered.

As it is, his disposal efficiency is about 75%, which puts him on a rough par with Sheridan, who - I think unfairly - has very few fans on here.

I reckon he should play more, but let's not assume these kids contribute more than the older guys outside the team. The benefit to playing them is realised later.

Round 1 against the dogs he was marking and running off half back giving us a bit of drive out of the backline.. only a bit because there was a number of turn overs. Since then he has basically run around in circles handballing to team mates under more pressure than him.

Either shift him to a wing or send him back to peel for a few weeks to get some confidence back up.

I have liked the look of all of the young guys introduced and feel that they will get better given longer stints.
I don't understand Brady Grey being dumped though, maybe Ross decided with the inclusion of Hughes the amount of youth would have jeopardised our ability to be competitive. This is probably a valid position because I don't know that kids at any level of sport develop well whilst being demolished.

As I've said before, I think Ross is giving the young guys a few weeks in the AFL, and then letting them go back to the WAFL with a greater awareness of what they need to work on. I'd be very surprised if Grey wasn't back in a few games.

That is sooo Morgan. Critical of others when they don't support the younger players/draft picks, so when we do he finds a contradictory reason and isn't happy with Grey's performance because he missed a goal.
Everyone in our side misses easy goals! So far this year Weller has kicked 1.7 and Pav something like 10. 17.

The ball's kicked high into the Docker's backline, the pack flies and Dawson blushes the ball over the boundary. Free kick against Dawson for imitating a Sherrin.

CA, I like both Grey and Hughes - and said as much - but as with a lot of guys taken in the fourth round of the draft, or rookie draft, they don't come polished. Grey in particular came to footy late, so there is plenty of upside left in him.

My point is about expectations. Sheridan is only a year older than Hughes, and yet you seem ready to rule a line through him. I think his run and carry is important, but could be better used on the wing. I think both he and Sutcliffe are playing out of position a bit, but we need them where they are for the moment.

I've been a big critic of Sutcliffe over the last couple of years, but like D.Pearce, if you can ignore the turnovers, they are actually quite good contributors. I've thought Sutcliffe has been a little better the last couple of games. I think I would want to be pretty darn confident that the likes of Sheridan and Sutcliffe aren't in our top 25 before wanting to cut them from the list. Judging players on future potential can sometimes be a little clouded and not necessarily mean you end up with your strongest 22 on the field. Right now, due to injuries, we know we aren't able to field our strongest 22 so that is not the current priority. It will be in Round 1, 2017.

I quite like the idea of being able to sit back and watch some of the prospects play in 2016, without much concern of the game result. I think we'll all be far better aware of what the list should look like by the end of Round 23.
Gone to bigfooty where there's fewer Docker Haters.
