I think playing him in the ruck would have been more about fast tracking his match fitness than a tryout for AFL ruck duties. As soon as he can run out a game on the ball I'd say you'll see him lining up more closer to goals on a regular basis.

I really want to believe but he got 6 possessions!!.....SIX possessions in the Reserve team of a competition very light on on talent with part time half fit players that cant get a game in the ones and wont go to the Bush or amateurs.
If this former first round pick and dominant TAC cup and Vic Under under 18 player cant get at least 20 possies against these hacks - we are truly dreaming...
This is concerning to say the least. I have seen a few games of WAFL Ressies this year - In general they are hopeless, small and slow.
I saw him two years ago in a pre season game for Peel and left largely unimpressed.......I am ready to let go of the Apeness Dream. One semi dominant performance in a intra club game is about the only thing we have seen.
I realise he has had injuries and missed large chunks of the recent seasons but the gap in talent should be far greater than what this six possessions shows.

I saw him play the first few games of last year before he got injured.
Had absolutely no presence in the forward line what so ever. However showed a bit more when in the ruck.
I remember leaving the games thinking OH No , another lost first round pick.
But Hey Tabener has definitely improved from being a liability ( please stay away from the ball so you dont turn it over) , to a more neutral position , all in the space of a few weeks.
So I have hope that Appeness can improve .
