TOPIC: GWS Combo Deal

I saw Rory Lobbs first game of colts, amateur and WAFL footy.
He is a freak athlete and natural footballer. I was hopeful we would have got him but GWS snapped him up relatively early in the draft on form shown to that stage.
I know for a fact he is open to coming home next year and is not bothered by which club.
Could we get GWS to do a combo deal with Cam Mac?
He is showing glimpses of rare talent at the moment and we need to act fast before his price goes through the roof.
Could we do it? First Round Pick, young player and Chris Mayne??
We probably forego Jesse Hogan if we do and a star midfielder in this years draft.....hmmm

Ambitious suggestion but I can't see GWS coming to the party especially as Lobb is basically a direct replacement for McCarthy since he made himself unavailable. They won't let both players go under any circumstances unless maybe it was Steve Silvagni negotiating the deal.

I think its a good idea. The problem is who you are trading with. Put pick 4 and next years first round in front of them and they will say, so what. They are going to be confronted with a situation of leaving out blokes who would be in a struggling teams top 6.

We have nothing to offer them, no-one has.

I think we should hold onto our draft picks and focus on the identification of quality players and then draft them. Plus draft for need rather than best available.

Now we're in a spot where we are going to pay overs for players we missed out in the draft. Whats going to happen in 5 years when the current crop of non-existent draftees aren't coming through?? Surely there are players that we could pick up this year that will be as good if not better than Lobb.

Lobb is gone, if he wants a trade home then it may happen in the future. Focus on our own back yard.

Absolutely Hypen - I can see him being a fully fit Paul Salmon/Simon Madden type. If you could get him for ten years I think it would be worthwhile. He didnt start playing footy until he was 18 and is already producing this quality.

If Hendrix leaves then go for Lobb as a perfect replacement but I wouldn't be throwing our first pick into the mix too early. Lobbe isn't worth that if it's a top 10 pick. We desperately need KPP's but I think we can do better with that pick at the trade table.

How does this scenario sound:
We finish with pick 5 and Hendrix nets us a second round compo pick as a free agent (leaves us with 23 and 24).
GWS have their pick at their current ladder position (13) and apparently 3 or 4 blokes in their academy who will be first round picks and need to be bid on.
Could we use our 3 picks and maybe a coupe of later round picks in a swap for McCarthy, Lobb and pick 13?
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Sounds pretty reasonable and the lower picks will certainly help GWS when it comes to bidding on academy players.
Didnt we lose one of the second rounders for the Bennell/Balic Trade?? Fre-Doh?
Getting a suitable suitor for Zac Clarke and a 2nd round comp pick while he is playing so badly may be a obstacle though? Chris Mayne offers more IMO and is replaceable with a fit Yarran in the side

demo1, Fre_Doh answered this one a week or two back in another post (summary Gold Coast got our 2016 2nd round pick);

" ... It went like this:
We participated in two trades with Gold Coast during the 2015 Trade Period.

On 14 Oct (Trade #4):
Fremantle received Harley Bennell and a round-two draft selection (No. 22* at the time of trade) from Gold Coast.

Gold Coast received a round-one draft selection (No.16 at the time of trade) and a round-two draft selection (No. 35 at the time of trade) from Fremantle.

* We recruited Darcy Tucker (No. 27 on Draft night) with this selection.

On 22 Oct (Trade #37):
Gold Coast received a round-three draft selection (No.56 at time of trade) and a 2016 round-two draft selection from Fremantle.

Fremantle received a round-two draft selection (No.35* at time of trade) and a round-four draft selection (No.61* at time of trade) from Gold Coast.

* We used these selections to recruit Harley Balic (No. 38 on Draft night) and Shane Yarran (No. 61 on Draft night)."
Gone to bigfooty where there's fewer Docker Haters.
