TOPIC: Silver lining?

I know the concept of Fyfe being a permanent forward as been debated ad nauseum in this forum, but with this season now officially a developmental year, could the timing of his injury allow for this to be a realty? I mean, without Sandi and Fyfe on the weekend, and with Mundy playing predominantly at halfback for the game, we still managed to win the clearances 35-30, which is pretty encouraging IMO. And if Lyon continues to give time to the likes of Weller, Blakeley and Walters (who was bloody excellent in the coalface) to be in the middle along with Neale, Barlow etc and let them develop/learn over the course of this upcoming season, it could release Fyfe up forward and come in the middle as necessary, much like Pav in the later half of his career. Couple that with the potential top 5 pick (which hopefully lands us that elusive KPP, even if this year's crop apparently isn't overly laden with them), suddenly 2017 is looking a little bit less gloomy...

I've never understood the "don't take the competition's best player out of the midfield" line.

I mean, if the rest of our mids were merely acceptable, then sure. But Neale and Mundy are no slouches, and with Barlow screaming to come back on-ball, and Hill now proving he's just as damaging inside as out, it's not as if we'd be likely to suddenly fall over in the middle.

If Fyfe does come back for the last few rounds, I hope he plays mostly forward.

Alongside Yarrran. Imagine that!

We also have a few other talls under the grow lamps who could head-up before years out.

I rekon young Ubergang will turn into a ripping KPP forward for us and along with Tabs Yarran, Fyfe, Bennell and after a stint in the seconds a refreshed and recalibrated Mayne, our lack of goal scoring ability will have evaporated. After Saturday the future of Freos midfield looks fine so maybe Fyfe will play like Pav used to, predominantly forward with stints in the middle when a little extra grunt is needed.
