I disagree. I believe he AFL have made it their mission to kill off the 'defensive-based' coaching/styles of play preferred by such coaches as Malthouse, Roos & Lyon through rules changes (10m protected zones), reduced rotations and umpiring biases towards 'attacking' teams like Hawthorn.
Unfortunately for Ross, he hasn't had the chance to make wholesale changes to our list as quickly as the rule changes have come in. Blokes whose only real attributes were to apply pressure but who lack pace and skill fill our list.
How Ross is able to turn our fortunes around from mid-season with the same cattle makes no sense. Hopefully we'll get a few players back by then - but I'd rather see us with some high draft picks than rush Fyfe or AA Johnno back for no real good reason.
Of course, the coach is also not the one missing 10 out of 12 shots on goal - shots from blokes that have never previously had such problems (Pav), but the rose-coloured glasses brigade who have never gotten over the demise of Harvey, are now revelling in our rapid fall from grace. Apparently plenty of these are on Dockerland.
Here's a idea, how about coming up with an alternative coaching guru we should seek to replace RTB - and not in a historical context (I.e. Harvey would have done better).
