Josh was a first round draft pick that was tossed away - we lost developing that talent. Shane is right (of course), as much as everyone would like to think that square pegs will suddenly appear on the television during a game, it just won't happen anymore. Some clubs won't even think about looking at a player under 182cms - that's how it is.

Josh's mark in the second quarter yesterday was indicative of what he can do. Has he 'learnt' his lesson - without doubt. Does that mean anything to anyone? Nup. It's also highly doubtful that Freo would attempt to reclaim that first round pick - pride can be a stubborn thing.

At his age however he will get drafted again - I reckon by one of the SA teams.

Yesterday he was sixty metres out , set shot.

The key forwards are clustered around where the ball will drop. Simpson sees an unmarked player directly behind that immediate pack, no more than 3 meters behind.

He passes the ball to him , weighting it so it goes over the packs head and literally falls into the arms of the unmarked player. He did not move.

There's a fair bit of rose tinted glasses revisionism going on here. Put yourselves in the shoes of the other 40 blokes on the list who wouldn't dream of not missing training, not doing what the coaches ask of them and, to top it all off, not turning up for a flight for an AFL game.

Successful clubs don't thrive by having special rules for one bloke and a different set of rules for everybody else.

Do you envisage an organization run by Harris, Rosich and Bond dealing with this in the appropriate manner?

Were not talking about conventional corporate performance management here. Some of the attributes required to solve this problem - empathy, sincerity, emotional intelligence to gain a deep understanding of his personal situation and current view of the world.

Question, if Neesham was entrusted with the solution would he have developed a formal improvement plan to solve it? With behavioral KPI's or would he have addressed the factors leading him to stuffing up?

We've got an awesome Reconciliation Action Plan. I'm pretty sure it was plagiarised from Woodside, but that box has well and truly been ticked.

Cynicism aside, we drafted Simpson, and recruited Bennell. To say we're gunshy about taking talented young players from different backgrounds rings a little hollow to me. Perhaps we don't develop them as well as we'd like, but there have been some successes as well as failures.

Sometimes even the best run clubs struggle. See Hawthorn and D Garlett for example.

The AFL wouldn't stand for it either. Otherwise we'd have things like Buddy Franklin's 'natural arc', Hawthorn's 'unsociability', Collingwood's 18 games in Melbourne every year, etc. etc. etc.

...and Cloke is fronting up for a VFL game this weekend.

I would give a strength and conditioning coach some extra duties - give him/her 12 weeks of extra pay to see what they could do with Josh. In the distribution of salaries, it wouldn't be that much - then they should sit down and have a good think about the draft period.
