Not the best player but the best pick up considering the position in the draft and whether rookie, preseason or national.

I would like our 2011 Rookie Draft pick number 20 or 37 to read Jeremy McGovern.
Instead pick 44 from WCE does.
Whoever decided that Gavin Roberts and Nick Lower were better value needs a urgent reassessment.

I reckon Johnson was our best because of the difficulty in snaring a quality KPP outside of first round of the national draft. I think it's fair to say you have a better chance of landing a quality midfielder as a late pick or in the rookie draft than a KPP.

Sam Mitchell was taken at 36 and Brett Kirk the rookie draft and there are dozens of bargain all Australian midfielders. The only examples I can think of with talls taken late that go onto be a success are Tex Walker taken at 75 and Kurt Tippett at 36. Justin Westhoff from Port taken in the 70s has been a moderate success and McGovern is still early in his career but shows promise. It reinforces the need to use early picks on the best talls if they are available. Or trade your early picks for them. Even if you are lacking midfielders I still reckon it's best to use early picks on talls as good midfielders are much easier to come by and you stand a better chance of trading them in later if needed. The game isn't won or lost in the midfield. All 22 players have a say on the outcome.
