Not sure I am too happy with the way the AFL has sliced up WA and given West Coast the Great Southern and 90% of the South West.

Freo gets the midwest, wheatbelt and Kimberly but can't select Petrovski-Seton this year.

It would be interesting to know how many of the young kids that came through the NSW and QLD academies are from that state originally. The Weller boys spring to mind as they were originally from Tasmania and moved to the Gold Coast because that was the best opportunity for them to get noticed and picked up at AFL level. The irony is they both ended up in VIC and WA respectively. Rorting the system will be easy, just move young players you want to zones that you control. I assume there will be no cap on expenditure for these academies so wealthy partners of football clubs can sponsor facilities and "associated costs" to get the results required.

Jack Martin came from the midwest, so did Jaeger Omeara, Patrick Cripps, Jaimie Cripps, Josh Kennedy, Paul Hasleby.. Ok I know the last few aren't indiginous, but I think we will do fine having the midwest.

I would hope that, in the spirit of giving unrepresentative groups a better chance to play league football, the professional football clubs would avoid manipulating the system and use their resources constructively; trusting in their ability to find and nurture talent better than their competition.

Of course, this is a league where footballers are potentially put at risk of spinal injuries because football clubs can't be trusted not to abuse the use of a stretcher, so I don't hold too much hope.

Good call Timmeh add to that players from the wheatbelt - Darren Glass, Chance Bateman, Robby Hadrill, Buddy Franklin, Dale Kickett, Derek Kickett, Leon Davis and I am sure there are some I have missed. That's not a bad spread of talent
