so as the other thread has become more of a recruiting thread and less about the "new Game Plan" I thought I'd start a new thread.
I found it interesting in the other thread that some blame for the Game Plan was levelled at the players as they had some input. I wonder how much if any say they have in team selection each week.
It has seemed to my untrained eye that we have gone too short in our back line every week so far this year, against the dogs we had one KKP down back being the ZacD, against the Suns & Slime we had two Zac & MJ, I cannot for the life of me understand this tactic, it seems pointless having smaller running types ready to rebound out of defence if the opposition simply outmark them and get a set shot on goal.
I said after the game against the Dogs that Sutcliff should not be expected to have to match up on players like Stringer yet just two weeks later we are matching him up against Darling, am I the only one who thinks this is just asking him to fail?
I actually didn't mind the idea of going small in the forward line, it worked against the suns and we were able to kick the elusive 100 points, however the bleeding in turnovers caused us to still lose.
whilst i greatly admire young A Pearce's attempt to play the roles given to him week in week out, it seems fairly obvious he is a natural defender and not a forward/ruck.
So for me the changes required are to play Pearce back alongside MJ, and Zac D, let Ibbo roam free generating the drive from half back we are craving.
with the benefit of hindsight its easy say we should have played a genuine ruck alongside Pav in the forward line and i think given the loss of Sandi, Ross will revert to this. so the changes i see for this week are:
Sandi replaced by Griff.
Muz/de boer/suban/Langdon to be replaced by Hannath (playing Forward/Ruck)
AP to go back to help MJ & Zac who face Petrie, Waite and Brown/Goldy.
Like it or not, I think Mayne will continue to get a game until Yarran is fit enough to replace him.
