Lyon's modus operandi in post match press conferences is to be intimidatory. He's not alone in that regard. But the one question I would love someone to ask him is why the same players get dropped while others escape week in week out. It's always Muzungu, Deboer, Crozier etc. I get it. They deserve to be dropped. But there is any number of guys that escape the axe week in week out that are never forced to be afraid of their positions. Your Mayne's, Suban's, etc. Even Ballantyne. I disagree with Morgan's call earlier in the week that you only drop someone if there is someone better to replace thim with. I appreciate we are in the business of winning football matches. But at some point you have to be prepared to see what others have got. Lyon is deeply conservative in this regard. While other clubs throw the odd new draftee to the wolves, we make them do 3 plus years at Peel. You have to play your Blakely's, your Collins and Tuckers. There is just no other choice. At some point you have to say to yourself we can compete and be good but we are never going to win a flag with this team. I am hopeful enough to believe that we will get both Hogan and McCarthy. If this is the case we should be planning ahead so they don't come back to a nasty never ending rebuild the like of Melbourne and Carlton are going through.
