Well we gave effort and were better than previous weeks. I think gives shape to our season.
Shout me down if you like but Taberner goes forward. Pearce goes back, Collins comes in. Langdon and Weller continue to play. Barlow stays in the middle. Mayne goes back to the WAFL is 27 and can regain form. Brady Grey gets rewarded for his effort and intensity.
Let's face it Pav and MJ are the last of the old brigade, blood the new guys and build a structure while they are still viable.
Bennell comes into the team adds support to Fyfe and Neale. Sheridan continues to play despite annoying the hell out of me, seems to be one of the classier and faster younger guys.
Show enough during the season that we offer enough hope to Hooker, and Hogan to become their clubs of choice. McCarthy gets the all clear to join us. all

Allof a sudden we are starting to build a team right amongst it again.
I still think Sandi has longer left in him, big gap to fill but also a big chunk of salary cap that other clubs don't spend on Ruck Men.
I don't believe the way to negate a lack of leg speed is to replace KPP's with smaller still relatively slow and unskilled players.
We need to identify the relavent talent on our list and have it ready for next season.
We have enough real talent to challenge sooner rather than later.

Despite personnel deficiencies, if Sandilands stays in the ground and the game was Fremantle's.

Take Sandilands out and put no one in and we get belted.

Take him out and play Johnson in the middle and we're competitive in the middle again but we've given up our best defender. All options put everyone else under pressure because someone is covering for someone else. That's when the personnel deficiencies leave the team exposed.

But play Griffin instead of de Boer, or half a dozen other blokes in the mix because of the theoretical model of midfield rotations, and everyone can continue playing the game the way they did in the first quarter.

Ross Lyon's weakness is his lack of adaptability and he doesn't have anyone sitting next to him to cover for that at the moment.

Mayne has now kicked 1.5 in 3 games and I automatically count a Mayne shot for goal as a point - just the way I used to count it a goal (circa 2013-14). He killed our momentum in the Prelim missing from 20m straight in front and has gone backwards from there if it's possible. Sheridan made a howler in the same game but at least he's still having a crack without the mental demons destroying every disposal.

Tabs kicked 1.1 in his only outing against the Dogs so at 50% - he gets my vote. If he can't learn how to mark in the AFL, then give him the rest of the year to prove it one way or another. If not, then add him to alarmingly large list of tried-hard-but-couldn't-cut-it players we seem to have.

Drop Mayne, play Crozier.

Play Tabs as well and get some of our genius coaches to work on his marking.

Besides whatalotahooey made AA and he can't mark

Its not safe to speak up to Lyon.

If he spoke to me the way he speaks to his coaches in the box, I would give it back.

I think everyone is being too pessamistic and that Ross is making some big selection errors. The Ross errors are that he needed more talls today against the Eagles big forwards. When Sandy went down, Pearce had to go into the ruck leaving us too small in the backline, especially when Lycett started going forward. The upside is that Sam Collins has been taking a lot of marks at Peel and has a cool head for a young player. Jack Hannath got 45 hit outs for Peel a week ago and would have backed up Sandy and been handy as a big back player as well.
I am concerned that Sandy will be out for a long time with broken ribs if not a back injury.
Without a ruckman for most of the match today and having to use a backman inthe ruck effected both the clearances and our ability to defend. I am willing to bet we will beat the Eagles next time around with the addition of Mundey, Sam Collins, Harvey Bennell and Zac Clark and/or Hannath. Harvey Bennell will either free up Fyfe or kick a lot of goals himself.
Our difficulty will be cancelling out 3 or 4 losses before we start climbing the ladder. Now 211 is out it will be even harder.

Its always dangerous to go in with just one ruckman, and we practically lost one at the first contest in Round 1 - so its happened before quite recently, but somehow I can't see them bringing in both Griffin and Hannath next week.

We had our chances in the last quarter but couldn't get our noses in front. The final score flattered them. If we play like tonight each week then we will win enough to make the eight, and hopefully be coming home with a wet sail and do dome damage in the finals.

Griffin did nothing today to deserve a game. Wouldn't be surprised if they went with just A. Pearce rucking with help from.................buggered if I know.

So Sandi has played less than 70% of a game 4 times out of 72 games since 2012 (Roly's time) and some think Freo should have played another ruckman ... because Nic Nat goes knees first in a marking contest.
Yes I know Nic Nat's was a legitimate mark ... but for how long ... as soon as a "premier player" gets a shocking injury caused from a knee from such a marking contest, that rule will change just like every other aspect of our sanitised game.
How the hell you can talk about protecting players and penalise 211 every time he raises a knee in the ruck, but say it's ok to stick a knee straight out in front, contacting a player with force in the back and causing substantial injury has been beyond my belief for many years.
Gone to bigfooty where there's fewer Docker Haters.
