It's just a little mistake in the caption.
Just look at it - should read "Fremantle's skipping Matthew Pavlich…".

He drove the team bus to the ground. The others were all too drunk.

Now changed to "Former Freo Skipper" ..

It's just nice to know that the peopole who write these articles have a deep understanding of the teams they're reporting on. That's why I value their keen insights into our game.

Now this might have been discussed before, but while walking past a taxi rank one night a few weeks ago, I am sure I heard Brad Hardie insinuate that Fremantle 'management' appeared to stack the players vote in favour of Fyfe as captain, and only when the players insisted on either recounting or removing certain elements involved in the voting procedure did Mundy emerge as the elected captain. I haven't heard diddly squat about this since, but I was horrified at the time, because if that is true, that absolutely reeks of a club rotten to the core. Our club. Anyone else hear that, or have anything else to add, or was i auditioning for an episode in the new series of Twin Peaks at the time?

Knowing the Steve's and the shady cr*p they always pull off to get their way I wouldn't doubt this.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

If you followed players' off-season trips and the groups they went in, it wouldn't surprise me that they would have spoken about captaincy and who would vote for whom. If Hardie's story is true about a player(s) being surprised at who was taking the lead, it would look like it was Mundy, and daylight second.

The compelling part of the story is that is was sauced not in Fremantle but a gentleman about the place.

Ingredients contain 37% Belvedeire of Belmont and 11% Donny of Spearwood.

Cheers Shane, that's what I thought I heard. Pretty hard to make a story up like that I would have thought. I would have thought that Fyfe might have appealed to elements within the Dookers brand as he is 'so hot right now' in marketing terms. So there was possibly some stevening of the voting procedure. Might want to re-run any director voting since they took it out of the hands of the AEC while they are at it.

I put that right upon there with this other gem from the preseason: Ross Lyon revealed his dream job outside of footy and sport would be an "investment banker"

I would imagine the Steves are still big in the pants about that. Lyon is bloody lucky the Steves came to the party after he blew his money in 2009 in the GFC. Investment Bankers are a different sort of people. Honourable they are not. Ross would fit right in. So would the Steves.
