It's time to start playing the big bodied tall backs and forwards we've been recruiting for the last 5 or so years.

There is no point dropping Dawson as much as a good proportion of posters want to. That's two games in a row where we have gone in too short in the back half. We need Dawson and Pearce to play with Collins/Silvagni and Johnson and then Ibbo and one or two others (depending on whether we play 6 or 7).

Clancee Pearce got absolutely torched by Ah Chee tonight. I have no idea why he is playing - he was too slow last year and is no better this year.

We would have been better off with A Pearce in defence the whole game. He up there with Johnno for being able to keep his head under pressure.

I agree! Play the bloody kid where he looked great and leave him there for a few years.

According to Ross he was "happy how the Dockers played except the 2nd quarter. If you look at the the other quarters we won"....So no changes.

Was he watching the same game? Did he think we were playing a team who is a top 4 side?
Lot's of questions, the main one is: What is RoLy smoking? Don't worry about testing the players - the coach needs testing!

Eventually What Changes Are Needed? 8 years 4 weeks ago #21

Eventually
From what I can see the new game plan needs fast reasonably skilled players playing in the right positions. We have a very fast, tough and talented back pocket ready to go at Peel, young Grey - promote him and send Sutcliffe who has good pace and skills to the wing or on the ball and you have 2 positions sorted! Give up on trying to fit Clancy into the side he just hasnt got the pace for the modern game. Cannot persist with Mayne he is just too out of form, needs a spell. Bring back Taberner - should never have been dropped - this kid has massive upside we have no other options than to play him all year. Move Barlow into the centre and leave him there feeding the ball out to the outside runners.
Swap De Boer for Suban just for a change and give Suban a freshen up.
Apart from that we just wait for Yarran and Harley to add that extra class and pace to the forward line, I think then we could be ready for a stunning run home!

Grey's problem is his disposal, but if he's quick then he's possibly better than a slow player with poor disposal. Ethan Hughes didn't look overawed in his debut either. But I think Darcy Tucker is the obvious inclusion if we are after pace and quality disposal. It might be earlier than Ross would have liked but he looked like an afl footballer in the pre season.

I guess we have to remain realistic in terms of achievable goals, so with that in mind this season could be looked at as an experimental phase with hopes of playing finals footy. A creative positive move would be to get our younger players out there now and learning under some of the experience. As I can see it, in 2017 we will have a radically different side given the age of many of our players. If Rosco wants to stick around for a while then shouldn't this be part of his long term plan. Other teams are all playing their new drafts with surprisingly good results. 2015 should stand as a strong point of reference for this club, " we didn't try new ideas and new players and look what has happened, we're loosing games against teams that are not better than us. There are at least 4-5 recruits that should be out there every week that we don't see. Time waits for no man Roly.

First of all Ross must keep faith with the young guys - Weller, Langdon and A. Pearce. He must persist with them from now on.
Obviously we await Bennell. Collins looks like someone Ross needs to give a chance to down back and as others have said Grey, Tucker and Hughes are possibles.
A Pearce in the backline.
OK we need key forwards. God knows who is going to step up at this stage! Fyfe plays as a forward a lot more is about all we've got.

We did recruit a bloke who was destined to be our new CHF, but he became the best midfielder in the competition instead. You can't help bad luck I guess.
An out of form Ibbo is a worry, however, and don't forget First Johnno has had a pretty limited lead in - he will be better for the run.
Collins has played forward more regularly than A. Pearce.

Whatever our game plan we need to improve our disposal efficiency. We were 65% and Suns were 76%.
We had the ball inside 50 more than them; 60 to 51 and kicked a worse 55% to 67%. Perplexing is that we had the better of tackles in the fwd 50 of 14 to 4!

We got buckleys of winning games at those differentials and we need to defend better.

It was a bit difficult for GC to win the tackles in the forward 50 stat Da Pav, 99% of the time when the ball was in their forward 50 there was no Freo players in there for them to tackle.
