TOPIC: Is it Game Over at Half Time?

Zac D was simply not big and strong enough to deal with Tom Lynch today. I didn't see him receive too much assistance from our other defenders.

The ball is coming in from a long kick from outside the 50 - The Spack and Tom Lynch are all alone, 10 metres directly in front of goal. The Spack is in front, he grabs Lynch's jumper and wrestles around to get behind him, then tries to reach over his shoulder to punch the ball away. Naturally he misses, Lynch calmly marks, takes the set shot and kicks the goal.

If any brain out there thinks that's an understandable defensive strategy in any definition of football, I'd like to hear it - it simply mystifies me how that bloke can even take to the field.

That would be the one where Sheridan gave up a handball on the defensive side of the wing just as all our blokes were running forward. Zac had a 1/100 chance of stopping Lynch in that instance and the same odds would have applied whether it was Matthew Scarlett, Stephen Silvagni or Zac.

He had the front position - it was his ball! Why wrestle around to get behind a forward simply to spoil? Again, it mystifies me...

Just a reminder that Gold Coast beat West Coast once last season. Apart from Lynch, they had Jack Martin, Callum Ah Chee, number 33, and their ruckman wasn't bad. They are a damn good side.

Dawson had a bad night against a very good player getting clean ball off Freo turnovers, but how anyone could watch our backline and single out Dawson ahead of Ibbo is beyond me. Had a dead set shocker. Couldn't read the ball in flight, constantly lost touch with his opponent. No impact the other way. In AA Luke's absence we need him to stand up, and he has started the season woefully.

Both will improve.

Me too, Polly. Lynch marked it in front of his face.

What's the point in picking a bloke simply because of his height if he doesn't use his height?

We could have put 4 Sandilands in that back line. GCS would still have picked out a spare man or two, and deliver lace out.
