Weller was also the only player not to have a clanger. His disposals were fantastic while being stuck in a forward pocket. The question is do you prefer 12 poor disposals from a Muz or Suban that directly or indirectly turn the footy over or 5 quality touches from Weller that are a good chance of resulting in scores.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Weller's hair is also better than NicNat's. He should be getting games on that alone. He would at the Eagles.

So what Noddy, are you saying Pav should be dropped before Weller???
This is the sort of blind faith in our youth that I speak of.

Weller has had 3 NAB challenge games and Round 1 to prove himself. To me he definitely shows promise, but I can totally understand why he could easily be considered to be dropped back to the Magoos for further improvement. He has not done anything special. There are plenty of players eyeing his spot with the likes of Yarran, Bennell, Mora, Crozier who will soon be available, together with our other young upcoming players.
Weller has had 25 or more disposals in the Magoos only once. When the likes of de Boer, C Pearce, Mzungu, Sheridan, Sutcliffe, Crozier, Langdon, Blakely play in the WAFL league for Peel, they regularly get high disposals.

D26 are you talking about Weller or Nic-Nat? It's unfair to compare the 2 coz N-N has a lot more time when he doesn't have the ball to achieve things .

He could study for a degree during games, he has that much of it.

Yeah but DockerKnockers disposals isn't the only measure you use is it? Otherwise Stephen Hill wouldn't be one of the first picked every week. Weller can bring something invaluable to the side that others can't, his pace and skill are at a premium for us and it's really worth giving him every chance to bring them to fruition at the AFL level.

ROTV, Stephen Hill averaged 24 disposals a game in 2015, and is often tagged. He had 25 or over in 10 of his 23 games. Comparing him to Weller again bewilders me.

I'll continue to say it, Weller may become a great player, but he isn't now.
He is still a small bodied player who is going to struggle in the contested football against bodies 10kg bigger than him, as he did on Sunday. When Freo gets belted by the Bulldogs with the Bulldogs defenders all having high disposals (including contested stats), I struggle to see how people can be talking up Weller who got 5 disposals.

I like the kid, but not that much that I'm going to ignore the facts.
As I said, is he our Nic Nat ... protected from any criticism because of his POTENTIAL and MARKETING VALUE.

Yeah when he was nailing those tackles it really looked like Weller was physically not up to it.

Weller's played his fourth game on the weekend, the stats you gave on Hill were for his 9th season of AFL footy (and pretty much a 70% raise on his first four seasons stats). Weller's also playing as a half forward, so high disposal numbers aren't the key thing for him at the moment (which was the point you skipped over).

Plus evoking the spectre Notacluey is a sensationalist stunt and diminishes your argument. Saying I compared him to Stephen Hill is a similar stunt, as the point was a player's disposal count doesn't always indicate their contribution (would you take 40 Rockliff disposals or 30 from Fyfe).

So Doc Nocs on that reasoning Fyfe would not have warranted being played because he was a skinny, untested, low possession player with a ton of potential? Potential is only realised if it is allowed to flourish, Weller aint gonna be a great AFL player playing at Peel.

LOL I like Weller, he reminded me of a cattle dog pup chasing cars, not unlike Mayne when he first played for us in some regards. Weller goes good. He embarrassed a lot of others on the park on Sunday and showed them up. I like his disposal and work rate. I recon if our midfield was getting the ball out and doing their job on Sunday, Wellers supply of leather and stats would have looked a whole lot different. Can't blame the pup for not being fed.

ROTV, "nailing tackles" ... he nailed one good enough to win the footy, from behind, not exactly the contested physical stuff that I'm talking about. You brought up Hill's name in reference to his low disposals. You were wrong. Hill does not have low disposals. Don't try to turn your argument around on to me.

The big difference between Rockcliff and Fyfe is again the phyiscal size and the contested possessions. My point exactly. de Boer would have most likely had more disposals and tackles if he had have played instead of Weller.

bpurple, when did Fyfe get 5 disposals and get talked up?
Comparing Fyfe to Weller is why I'm having issue here.
And why can't players develop in the WAFL? Why do so many Freo supporters think we need to play youth that just isn't yet ready for the AFL?

Before the game I was concerned about Sutcliffe (very poor in contested football) on Stringer. My concerns were right. From the start Stringer knew he could out muscle him.
That was one of the worst Roly coaching decisions I have seen for some time. Ibbo kept Stringer goaless last time around.

My guess is that they've picked Weller because he's got some zip and skill to go quick when he gets it.

Most players can run 15-20m in 2 seconds so if you have a player that cut down the time it takes to go back assess and deliver, maybe even play on, break around opponents and deliver deeper, it allows his teamates to run into space and receive, thus giving the team a lot more attacking flow.

Just a couple of players with class can make a huge difference. Later, when we add Bennell, we'll add a bit more flair and precision ball movement, which is supposed to be the area the review has identified as the #1 reason for the drop off in goal scoring in the second half of 2015.

But we'll get a better look at how Weller goes when we're winning the centre. The big cog is the midfield. Perhaps its contrary to the laws of physics, but in footy its the big cog in the middle that has to turn to make the little cogs on the outside whirr.

Don't expect consistency, but one thing with Weller in the two full(ish) pre-season games we played is that he was involved in goalscoring several times in each game, despite his overall low possessions.

DockerKnockers, show me where I said Hill had low disposals, more to the point was that disposals are relative to the players role and the value you get from those disposals. You could also do the Rockliff- Hill comparison too in terms of quality vs quantity. So disposal counts are a long way from being the only metric you use to select a player (to counter your point on other players racking up higher numbers at Peel).
