I can't understand the large amount of handball in close to stationary players about to be tackled or kicks to players standing still (or having to wait for the footy). Surely the players have been coached to be on the move and pass to players on the move, heading towards space or moving to create space.

Even late in the game the players weren't able to work this out. Muz handballed half a dozen times in the final qtr to someone still and in a worse position than him who was then tackled or pressured into turning the footy over. The onus is on both players to either move to receive the ball or not to pass to someone in a bad position. These are simple things that need to be coached into players.

It is the same with our kicking where someone like Suban had a lot of early kicks bursting though packs but bombed it to no one at all (often with time to assess his options and direct a kick) and the opposition swept the ball up. Not only is the kick poor and decision making poor but the stationary forward positioned ahead of the ball is stuck sitting under the footy if they are even able to get to it in the first place.

These should be simple structures we have practiced all pre-season and have well rehearsed by these supposedly seasoned players. Otherwise what's the point in playing them over kids who can learn these fundamentals? Weller was one of the few blokes always moving and trying to create when he found the footy, looking up and trying to hit targets to advantage. It really didn't have to be that hard.

I commented on that in another post, and as much of the blame should be placed with the players up forward who do not go hard and fast at the ball, as is placed with the Suban's etc who are kicking forward under pressure. If Suban can see a fella like Walters running hard to a vacant space, he only needs to put it out into that space. If Walters is standing still, ( which is very rare for him) Suban has to be pinpoint accurate, and that doesn't happen often under pressure.

When Ballas was under pressure on his left on the boundary early in the game, the reason he saw Walters and kicked to him was that Walters was moving hard into a space.

BizKit you've nailed it.

1m hand passes to stationary players, missed kicks, switching the ball across the ground then stopping, general absence of a plan or method of moving the ball forward other than bombing up the line.

Going to be a long week. Hurry up Saturday.
