I know that we identified a weakness of the side being our ball movement out of defence but taking some of our better midfielders out of the area they are best suited to help that transition struck me as a bad move. Seeing our midfielders dropping so deep into defence yesterday did two things that really hurt us.
I) It brought the whole squad deeper into defence making it tougher to get the ball out as the opposition was able to push up and lock the ball in.
II) It left sub par players like Suban and Muz in the middle trying (and generally failing) to win the footy, hurting our chances of getting the ball forward initially in any meaningful way.
Even Fyfe up forward hurts if we continue to lose that midfield battle so comprehensively. Those blokes who can win the ball in the centre and get it forward are priceless and need to be played in a position to do just that.
