TOPIC: Key Talls

The Dogs aren't known for being a strong tall team and yet their talls killed ours. We go in with a solitary key defender for no apparent reason and surprise, we can't stop them marking in their forwardline. It's been said many times before but I have to know what SCOS has done to RL. It's ridiculously stupid and juvenile refusing to play him when we clearly need him.

Hendrix has copped a lot of flack on yesterdays performance but after an early knock which left him forward most of the day, he was the only tall to really threaten as a contested marking target. Griff didn't manage a single mark or look like taking one despite getting plenty of time leading the ruck against what is the worst ruck division in the competition. It was no where near good enough especially when he did nothing at ground level.

Tabs looked slow and managed to get one mark on the lead i50 (that he sprayed the kick badly) and another that fell in his lap as the Dogs player took each other out. It wasn't a good day to be a forward but it was a poor performance and doesn't look like there's much improvement left.

Add Pav who looked injured and there's a lot of cause for concern about our tall stocks atm. I'm glad we have recruited so many tall options for when things aren't working out...
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Did you notice how the ball went in the respective forward lines yesterday. I have seen enough of the bloody premiership "quadrants" to know thatboth Sydney and Richmond who are both OK defensively, have a couple of reasonably handy forwards. Still these teams struggle offensively.

Silvagni would not get a game at most other clubs which is why he isn't getting a game with us. It's not personal he just isn't quite good enough.

That's simply not true Goodie. Before RL came to the club SCOS was shutting down some of the best KPF in the game. When given opportunities for us since he has played quite well on many occassions but still can't get a gig. Not playing any key defenders should not be a preferred option, that's poor coaching.

I disagree. Silvagni plays three or four games a year. If he was better it would make him a target for other clubs but it doesn't. He is tough, strong and brave, but also clumsy at giving away free kicks, and lacks skill. His game in the last derby was one of the hardest things I have ever had to watch in football, although admittedly Kennedy is the best full forward in the comp.
Again, its not personal.

You could be talking about Zac Dawson with that description and he gets played every week.

With that criteria, name a better defender that we currently have. It dumbfounds me why Silvangi hasn't been played more often when fit. The reason he might struggle when he is, is because he's in and out of the team on a whim.

Dawson is better. He is taller and can punch the footy pretty well. It's not much of a resume but we're not really comparing gun players are we.

Wasn't Silvagni a late withdrawal yesterday? Suggesting he wasn't ommitted by choice, but because of an injury or illness, or risk thereof.

Who said replace Dawson. Gees, at least give the bloke 4 weeks worth of games in a row, and then they'll know whether he's just fill in material. Is anyone else doing any better?

You said name a better defender. I named Dawson.

Dawson can punch. He can also get out run and outmarked.

Their midfield killed us. You wouldn't expect Mundy, Hill, Fyfe, Barlow and your ruckman to all play that badly collectively and give the opposition team so many repeat entries.

Their tall - Boyd, didn't do much. Stringer isn't that big, but he's quick and a bit of a freak. You wouldn't bring a tall like Silvagni in to cover him.

Stringer is the same size as Pav and definitely qualifies as a tall. Boyd is a kid who's done nothing ever and still made our defenders look silly while their poor excuses for ruckmen also monstered our blokes. Playing a solitary KPD defender (Dawson who I thought played ok in the circumstances) was a massive mistake and did cost us.

SCOS is good enough and I've outlined why many times before but regardless of his ability, he should have 100% been in that side. How many times in history has a side gone in to the first round of the season with just the 1 bloke over 190cm in defence?!
