I initially thought he could play centre half forward, but I don't think he has the size. He's a flanker. Plays like Koops.

I would equate Yarran with more of a Des Headland lead up half forward type but a little bigger.

Have any of you actually seen him play? He's a leading full forward, pure and simple. Something Freo hasn't had since Tony Modra.

He might not be as tall as Kennedy or Walker, but that is his position.

Mature-age recruit Shane Yarran also looks set to play his first game of the year, albeit in the WAFL.
Yarran, 26, was the leading goalkicker in the WAFL last season and was drafted by the Dockers with pick No.61 in last year's NAB AFL Draft. He injured his knee in last year's WAFL Grand Final and has undergone a long rehab program over the pre-season.
Weber said Yarran looked ready to play after some strong weeks on the training track, and could be considered for selection with Peel Thunder this week.

He doesn't have to be 6ft 8 to play full forward. All he has to be able to do is lead hard to space, take a mark, and kick straight when he sees the big sticks in front of him. Walters could easily play full forward if allowed to, but we persist in using him as a crumbing forward. We have a plethora of those. Put Mikey to full forward, go back to "Pagans Paddock" and watch him create merry hell, then when Yarren gets fit let him take over.

if walters was playing FF in an open forward line that would require our guys to kick to space on the lead.. Our current method of option 1 put it up as high in the air as possibleor 2 kick it over the leading player might present a problem for son son.

A big target like Franklin or Kennedy is always preferred to a small target in a key position. It is possible Shane could play forward pocket alongside a bigger guy but Pav is the only guy at the moment. Otherwise Shane is the guy.

You are kidding yourself if you think RL is going to play a forward structure that allows forwards to lead out and draw the ball. Even more so if you think there won't be a couple of defenders in Yarran's way spare down back as we have sent most of our forwards up to the ball and a couple of extra defenders behind it.

Walters is a genius at creating or finding space to lead into. He is one of a few players who can turn a ordinary kick into a good pass by making the extra effort to get to the fall of the ball and he can kick straight when shooting for goal. It has to work better than what we have at the moment.
