As with a lot of things, I can't say that I agree with the Steves on this one. I understand the point that it potentially disadvantages non-Victorian teams, but isn't the better solution to replay the GF at the other team's home? Imagine a one-off grand final in Perth or Adelaide? It would be epic.

Also, Rosich has misapprehended the motivations of the AFL. They will almost always trade some degree of fairness for economic gain. A replay Grand Final pours heaps of money into the AFL's coffers, and the broadcasters love it. It's a much easier sell to continue to replay it, but move the game interstate, if need be.

I imagine the response at the AFL was to hang up the phone, make a crack about Fremantle not having any premierships and then a good laugh all around.

Extra time is also probably going to advantage the team that hasn't travelled. Everything advantages the team that doesn't have to travel. It seems one of the least important things that Fremantle should be taking to the AFL.

Seems like a strange battle to fight. When i first saw the article i thought they were arguing about the fairness of the grand final being held at the mcg giving an unfair advantage to vic teams. Might have to wait a bit longer for that one to be looked at...

Totally agree that it's such a rare situation, it should barely require much discussion time.
However, I was at the 2013 GF. The emotion of the build up and the day itself was an amazing experience. Win or lose, you deal with it. But walking away from all that with a draw and the thought of going through it all over again the following week? No thanks.
IMO a result on the day should be the only scenario.
Extra time or set shots on goal maybe. But not a re-play.

Sure it's not a regular occurrence but should it happen it will be impossible to argue it at the time. So best to confront the risk now.

Maybe they should be arguing that any repeat GF should be played away, with the extra time proposal as a fallback option. If that got a bit of traction, the extra time idea would get the nod so fast and forceful that it would carry a concussion risk.

Maybe, but they never argue for anything else so this seems an odd one . Perhaps the energy could have been focused towards Aaron Sandilands being available for round 1; or at the very least, the chairs at Subi Oval being hosed down before the game.
