If I get the Gist of Darcy's comments. The umpires need to stop penalising players for blocking the third man up, but in the same article our players are not doing enough to protect Sandi against the third man up. Am I missing something here.

I'm a bit slow on the uptake here. That bloke who got decked was planning on jumping on Sandi and punching the ball away. Probably planning to use Sandi as a step ladder.

Look, if other clubs want to do that, lets put Ballantyne as ruckman, and have Sandi go 3rd man up. Use Subes and De Boer to make sure Sandi gets a clean run at it. I reckon Sandi's knees would be quite painful as they crashed into your back or shoulder. In no time at all, the AFL would discover that, yes, there is a problem with this 3rd man up malarkey, and it would be fixed.

Yep done in the first Derby of 06 by a never was by the name of Seaby. Saw the incident quite clearly as did most of the crowd in the stadium at Subi. But no umpires report not even a free for high contact, match review looked at it but as there was no "Clear" footage of the incident, Seaby had no case to answer. Seaby was being towled up that day by Sandi the young upstart, so threw an arm at his head which connected and broke his jaw. Gee those dirty birds suck.
