I assume you are talking about this.

In fairness to Barnett, Stadium Australian Operations managed to convince everyone to play finals at Homebush, despite it being inferior to the SCG in almost every conceivable way. They are probably pretty shrewd negotiators. Contrast that with Barnett, who announced Burswood would be built, and only then asked Packer for money to help build it (an offer Packer politely declined). The WAFC took a whole WAFL season to negotiate a resolution to the West Perth jumper / Channel 7 broadcast deal.

I think it's fair to say that Barnett and the WAFC were overmatched. .

Just because Barnie is a bad negotiator doesn't mean west aussie football has to put up with the outcomes.

Sounds like our tractors are going to have to stay in factory colours from now on.

Yeah, well Perth Stadium Management is the Stadium management arm of the WAFC. Pretty easy to 'negotiate' when you've had all the cards and you're the dealer.

And what a cracking job they've done at Subi the last decade...

If that's the benchmark, imagine how well they've handled the cash cow funds from the 2 AFL clubs, in the name of local footy.

The state credit rating slides. This is Colls' way of saying ; Gill you should have put more into the stadium. Now he gets it out of the stadium deal. Obviously blind sided the WAFC. This will be interesting to watch.

They weren't blindsided. They now have to negotiate a deal with the stadium management company and their first move was to try and bluff the new managers into thinking they don't have a monopoly on football stadiums.

We're all doomed, doomed I tell ya!! Coming from Subiaco, the Marx brothers could have won the contract and we'd be better off. Don't worry Barney will just ask for some more GST to help footy in this State...everything will be hunky dory.

Frankly, the WAFC can get stuffed. The WACA too for that matter.

Each association was too short-sighted to get on the front foot in building a new stadium, let alone work together. Hell, the WAFC renovated Subiaco in the 90s and actually reduced capacity. Numpties.

Both Subi and the WACA boast atrocious facilities. Did the WAFC or WACA care? Nup. They were happy with the status quo, because their funding was reasonably secure, but at the expense of sporting fans in WA. Their laziness / selfishness has cost us all, because it meant the pollies had to make the important calls on a new stadium. The WA Labor Government had a sensible (albeit boring) plan, the Libs a stupider one that we have to live with, but that's the chance you take when you leave key decisions exclusively up to politicians.

Now the WAFC / WACA have to go cap-in-hand to the Company Barnett favours, and have the temerity to blame everyone but themselves. They are a disgrace.

That's nonsense. The WAFC has never had the capacity to build a new stadium. They're an underfunded, asset poor football organising committee.

Of course they couldn't build it themselves, but they took a Subi-or-bust (ie, WAFC control) approach that has cost them dearly. Same for the WACA.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, the WACA and WAFC put forward a joint proposal to work with the State Government to build a new stadium either at Subi or WACA / Gloucester Park, they would have had input into the decision, and I doubt very much a State Government would ignore them and built a stadium at Burswood. But even Barney was so convinced on the idea, they had worked together they could have had some say in decision making. As I understand it, they haven't even signed a HOA to be tenants.

They chose to put themselves outside of the tent, and it backfired. They've got no-one to blame but themselves.

Let's say the WAFC, the WACA and the Perth Philatelic Society got together and said to NASA that they wanted to build rocket launch pad at Narrogin Paceway, then I doubt very much that anyone would be wearing tan pants on a Tuesday.

That's how much sense you're talking.

The SACA and SANFL worked together, and footy fans in Adelaide get to walk to a beautiful new stadium in the heart of Adelaide. The SA Government didn't build a new stadium on a peninsula for no apparent reason, as those bodies tried to cling grimly to their outmoded stadia. The financial arrangement isn't perfect, but the respective bodies can always work out the kinks.

And then this happened.

www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/ian-colli...-20140710-zt3a3.html

Ian Collins advised Port Adelaide against signing the contentious Adelaide Oval agreement, warning chairman David Koch that the club would be broke within three seasons under the deal it was being offered.
