It makes Richmond's decision to use this tosser to lure Harley Bennell even more confounding.

Good to see the old standard lines like "deeply embarrassed" and "responsibility for my behaviour" being trotted out once again.

Media reports have alleged the woman involved in the altercation was threatened by Martin with a pair of chopsticks.

Lucky he wasn't at a steak house.

Just another example of some clubs protecting their "Star" players while throwing anyone they see as expendable to the media and the scrapheap.
It was in the middle of 2012 Martin was suspended for two weeks after missing training in an incident that saw former Tiger Daniel Connors – who had a list of prior off-field issues to his name - sacked.

Richmond* have had 3 or 4 years to do something about Martin's on and off field conduct, but the wet lettuce leaf, along with blaming those he associates with for everything Martin has done wrong is the best they can do. They have learnt nothing from the disasters suffered by WC and others in the past. Or do not wish to learn.

It is to Bennells credit that he walked away from anything Richmond* had to offer after being given an introduction to Martin, and gives us confidence that does wish to turn his career around, and not follow they same spiral into oblivion of the last "troubled footballer" who saw the likes of Martin and Richmond* as his saviour.

I don't believe this story. It's a beat up. He's a good lad. His team mates even call him Angel Dusty. She must have mistaken him with someone else....

The lady who dobbed him in has as much class. She singled out a shutfaced footy player and told him she was phoning the club.

Probably an Essendon supporter starting the long ascent to some high moral ground.

I see today that the esteemed Kevin Bartlett is suggesting a 12 month ban and a $50K fine for this utterly irresponsible incident.

This whole issue seriously shits me.

“tracy” says:

She said she had noticed a "rather inebriated" Martin drinking shots at the bar and going "in and out of the bathroom".
After telling him to reel in his boisterous behaviour, she said the midfielder became aggressive.

"He reacted extremely angrily and was very agitated, he began swearing at me and standing over me physically. It was extremely intimidating," she told Channel Seven.

So, there is a 24 year old having some drinks in a bar after a big day out at a music festival. At some point, the lovable Tracy decides that his drinking at the bar is somehow spoiling her night and this is very likely to be correct. So, rather than having a quiet word to the bar manager or other appropriate person, she confronts a drunken 24 year old and tells him to be quiet. I find it very unlikely that she did so with any level of politeness, in fact I would think she was probably quite aggressive in her tone and use of words.

Of course, being a place where people drink, each person escalated the aggressive and one had the upper hand of being able to threaten the other with a “dobbing in”.

Seriously, what is the world coming too. This is nothing. In fact, its systematic of the horrors of the social media fed moralists who think everyone has to pay for doing anything that some other person may not like or agree with. Thanks to social media, the world is turning into wowsers again.

Recently, a newspaper columnist was called a slut in a comment on a story she wrote. This bloke had a link on his facebook page to his employer’s page. So she dobbed him in and he got sacked. His comment was ill-advised, but explain to me why she has the right to seek out his employer and have him sacked !!

Stop the madness.

I am thinking or organising a posse, going to a pub, getting drunk and being loud. Anyone wanna join me? Could be the last time anyone is ever allowed to do it.

It's a big step between being loud and threatening to stab someone with a blunt stick.

The threatening with a blunt stick came after the initial confrontation and also after the threat to dob. This was a drunk 24 year old! She should have spoken to a bar manager or someone else. He did well to control himself. I don't condone violence, threats or intimidation against women, men or anyone. But some common sense and a realistic view of the situation suggest to me that this was nothing until Tracy carried on like a pork chop and handled the situation in such a way as to ensure an argument at the least would eventuate. Where does Tracy work, I want to dob her in for being a dickhead.

Her being an idiot doesn't excuse him being an idiot*. The difference is that she was a bit lippy and he's a massive man who threatened to physically harm her.

From a football point of view, if he was happy with the professional manner he was treating the early weeks of the pre-season then the call to the club probably wouldn't have riled him up so much.
