Yeah, but I dunno.
I reckon don't burden Nat with the pressure of being Captain Nat. I don't think we should in any way curb his inhibitions on the footy field, by having to lead by example, but do so in a restrained and diplomatic way. Only Luke Hodge can get away with artless thuggery and be universally admired. Nat is way too important, but we know there is a bone in his body which kind of likes it without glorifying in it.
DeBoer is a captain in waiting in my humble opinion, or SonSon for that matter. While DeBoer is never going to win a Brownlow or the plaudits of moronic Victorian commentators and experts, the players, his teammates know what DeBoer provides, and it might even take his game to the next level.
SonSon is a natural leader. Nat is more like the Oracle of Delphi, away on a higher plane that mortals can never even aspire to emulate. Yeah, he's grounded, but he's just so Nat Fyfe that nobody else can do what he can.
Seeing Mike W as captain would be a beautiful moment for the entire history of our young club. You just know he would honour the legacy of Pav by giving it his absolute all. Imagine Mike on the podium with Ross the Boss and you know it makes sense.
