There's a funny kind of paradox happening down at Parry Street. On the one hand, the legacy of jumper numbers doesn't appear to mean anything - the numbers of some of the supporter's favourites (such as Jeff) were just assigned to anyone; Mike wanted Des' old one, but it went to Sheridan. On the other hand, you've got Hase and Belly 'handing on' their numbers to new players (boy, was Sylvia the wrong choice).
It seems to me that almost all the other clubs make a big deal about which player should get what number - the media as well. As a consequence, most footy supporters do too. I'm no different, there's something in a number legacy - that's why I get perplexed by the two-faced approach at my own club.
Does it matter, or doesn't it matter? Make a stand and stick with it - if it doesn't mean anything, then just let it go. At the appropriate time, let's see Steve give Pav's number to some skinny wiener from Victoria (who just wants to go back home). Yeah, try that one on Steve.
