Walba - are you suggesting that Sandi is overrated, while NicNat isn't?

Give me strength, indeed.

I'd like to see Glass-McCasker picked up in the rookie draft.

Point of order Raglan Matt and Timmeh.

Whilst for most of his career Quinten Lynch may well have had sisters named Nadine and Ruby Lou, he did have two stellar years. In 2006 he kicked 65 goals and followed up with another 52 goals in 2007.

He kicked 12 goals in the 2006 AFL finals series (3 in the GF). Only two men have equalled or surpassed that tally in the ensuing years: In 2014, Roughead kicked 13 and Franklin kicked 12.

The Slime not having ruckmen in the 1990's is also a fallacy.

In 1992, Harding was 7th in hit outs won (3rd best by average).
In 1994, Turnbull was 6th in hit outs won (9th best by average).

As a team, in 1992, the Slime were no. 1 in the league for hit outs won (Geelong were no. 2). In 1994, the Slime were also no. 1 in the league for hit outs won (Geelong were no. 3).

If the big Q can amass those figures, I stand by my statement on Pav. Those stats however may be an indictment on the quality of AFL defenders circa 2006/07.

If you watch Darcy Tuckers highlights and delve a bit deeper in to his bio and what people have said about him he'll play his AFL football as a small defender. He is noted for his speed, decision making, and ball use. While we have some awesome small defenders the one deficiency we do have amongst them is someone who is quick.

Nelson, I loathe the Slime with a passion. However, if we're going to throw stones in their direction, let's make sure they're solid and not made of papier mache.

The reality is those premiership teams had genuine stars all over the field, along with lesser players who peaked at the right time - just like every premiership team.

We have a team which is extremely gifted in certain areas and deficient in others - just like every premiership hopeful team.

A couple of weeks ago (in the 'What are we doing...' thread) I suggested that we would draft midfielders at the Draft and that we were 'all in' with our current talls, so our selections last night were no surprise to me.

I'm not disappointed with our new recruits, a long apprenticeship at Peel awaits the youngsters.

Yarran is by no means certain to make the leap from WAFL to AFL, hopefully he will. I can't see us playing Walters, Ballas and Yarran in the same forward line if we intend playing Fyfe there as well.

Interesting times ahead.

At the end of 2014, I thought our premiership window was shut and we wer about to begin the long slide into obscurity. How wrong was that. Now at the end of 2015, I'm feeling positive about next year. But what I feel clearly has nothing to do with what actually transpires.

Yeah not sure How Yarran will go but at least he can kick straight. That's half of the equation right there. And I reckon we just need someone to hold down full forward without necessarily being a gun, just to draw attention away from Pav and Tabs. Ballantyne is starting to push on a bit in age and we could be in a spot of bother if he has another poor year.
Who knows how our recruits will turn out. It's a crapshoot. But to me it looks like list management picked out our two or three biggest weak links and targetted them. I'd be cutting the holidays short if I was Zac Dawson or Chris Mayne.

Yeah you know purplepower, all that pack marking, goal kicking, etc that he's not renowned for. Come to think of it, I'd be happy if he could actually hold a chest mark. He's got a Q-Stick like rubber chest.

Isn't Sheridan supposed to be quick 391? That's what sprouted on D/land earlier this year anyway. Plus, the old "he's got a big tank" chestnut.

No reason why Yarran, Fyfe, Walters, and Ballas/Mayne/ can't all fit into a forward line alongside Pav/Tabs. Hawthorn's most damaging forwards over the last 4 finals series have been their mid size "play a bit taller than they look" types, Gunston and co.

You're on the money, RM. Gunston is their goal kicker in their 3 premiership wins since 2013. Roughhead is the decoy. The other mid size forwards also do the damage. I think there's a case for either one of Ballas or Walters to start having more midfield time. I like to see Bennell play the high HF. I reckon that's where more goals will come from. Everyone seems to forget that Tabener was a rookie listed player. So he's not our solution to kicking more goals. He's got to play the decoy role, similar to Roughhead
