SF: Sometimes all it can take to change the direction of a contest is one coaching move. Paul Hudson switching Mitch Brown from defence to forward turned the game on its head, with the versatile star taking full advantage of Collingwood’s lack of height down back.
Brown had impact almost instantly, marking on the lead at centre half forward and setting up Eli Templeton for his first goal of the afternoon.
Clunking seven marks in the last quarter, Brown was proving to be a match winner. His mark and goal, followed by Dennis-Lane gathering a fumbled footy and kicking the major, gave Sandringham an eventual match-winning lead.
When the lead was cut to one point, Brown stepped up again. Taking a strong contested mark, the swingman went back and calmly slotted the snap with little fuss.
The game was led by two men all afternoon. Clint Jones amassed 44 disposals and kicked a goal, while Mitch Brown kicked three goals and had nine marks in a match-winning move up forward.
Brown, who has taken the second most marks in the competition and is second only to Jones at the club for most disposals, is favoured to be drafted by Essendon, but there could be several other suitors after another telling performance.
PF: Last week’s match winner Mitch Brown was switched forward with instant success. Flying across the pack, Brown marked and goaled to begin a run of three successive Zebras goals.
For every Box Hill goal, Sandringham responded with two. When the Hawks cancelled out Brown’s early quarter major, the Zebras answered through Saunders and Minchington. Then when Sam Grimley marked on the goal line and snapped true, Brown took a towering contested mark and nailed the goal from a tough angle.
Up forward, Mitch Brown led the way with four goals and 12 marks.
