TOPIC: What Are We Doing?(or not doing)

Corporal Agarn What Are We Doing?(or not doing) 8 years 5 months ago #1

Corporal Agarn
Are guys like Grimley and Brown, who are mature big bodied forwards available to be picked up now? A couple of clubs have picked up delisted players already. If so why the frickin hell aren't we doing anything?

Yes, i know we've got that young 34 yr old bloke Pavlich stitched up but does this mean we are going to rely on young untried draftees to miraculously take some marks and kick goas next year? I thought we already had that area covered with Apeness and to a lesser extent the struggling Tabener.

Don't worry I'm sure we will attract more midfielders

Pretty sure we cannot pick up Mitch Brown until the draft or Pre season draft, whichever he nominates for as he was not on an AFL list this year so doesnt qualify as a delisted free agent. Grimley on the other hand was just delisted so unless the hawks have already told him they'll pick him up as a rookie, I cannot for the life of me understand why we aren't doing everything we can to get him. unless Hale reckons he's a crab which is why he couldn't get a game with the senior side at the hawks

i reckon Tabener has a huge upside and will surprise the nay sayers next year. Another pre season, strong marking, good kick, a nice bit of agro and still only 22. There is absolutely no reason he can't turn into the forward freo are looking for.

Just noticed that other clubs have declared players to be rookie listed on a permission to train list, Mitchell @ Port; Hams, O'Brien & Steinberg @ Essendon. Why haven't we done same with Mora and Deluca or are we special case?? We have no-one that apparently wants to train with us. Have Bond & Lloyd already signed off for the Christmas holidays??

Huge upside for Tabener. It's not that he misses simple marks or can't make the distance 40 meters out or even though once the ball hits the ground he has a turining circle like the titanic but I am not sure he can play thru the midfield!!!

Besides Titanic Tabs the only other option is Apeness who has just had a year out with a knee injury and was actually a ruck man who was thrown forward when Boyd was injured, before being drafted.
If it wasn't so sad and pi55ing me off so much, it would be laughable.

Ok, now that you've got that out your systems - lets get back to Cam Macca.

was grimley a rookie listed player or main list? Because I'm not sure if you can sign a delisted rookie as a delisted free agent? I might be wrong.

Timmeh, with regards to rookie list players:

A 1st year rookie not receiving a further rookie contract offer is considered a delisted free agent, and therefore is an unrestricted free agent. (Grimley fits in here).

A 1st year rookie who refuses a further rookie contract is NOT considered a delisted free agent and therefore is not an unrestricted free agent (and must nominate and go through the draft).

A 2nd year rookie not accepting a further rookie contract is considered a delisted free agent, and therefore is an unrestricted free agent. (ala Ballard).

With regards to Grimley.

Grimley was delisted by Hawthorn TWICE (2014 as a senior and 2015 as a rookie).

They have chosen to dump him in favour of Jack Fitzpatrick - a 22 games in 5 years, Melbourne delisting.

We have appointed David Hale as an assistant coach. Hale will have seen Grimley at close range over the past few seasons, let's hope we ask him for his honest opinion.

With regards to Mitch Brown, PK is spot on, he must nominate for the Draft.

The blues have just signed Gorringe from the suns as a delisted free agent, looks like they are going down the freo route of just signing as many ruckmen as possible to make up for their lack of a forward line, they now have kruzer, wood, gorrange and the guy from GWS.

What about Mason Shaw? Delisted by Port. On our radar before he was drafted, been in the system for a couple of years, but now we're not interested?
Obviously we will get some young 18 yr old draftee slipping into the team and holding down a key forward position straight up.

Due diligence by Bondy , so by the time he wants them , someone has already bet him too it. :-) I would like Shaw as well , looked the goods early on.

With regards to Mason Shaw....NO THANKS!!!!!

Think Scott Gumbleton with less talent.

This is his 2015 season:
1 Bye.
2 Groin.
3 Groin.
4 SANFL Looked lost in his return from injury, in helpful conditions.
5 SANFL Showed a few signs up forward but coming from a long way back.
6 SANFL Did a solid job on Bruggemann as key position defender.
7 SANFL Looked a little shaky at times in defence.
8 SANFL Struggled before taking a crucial goal-line mark late.
9 Groin.
10 Groin.
11 Groin.
12 Bye.
13 Groin.
14 Groin.
15 Groin.
16 Groin.
17 SANFL Kicked an early goal before hurting hamstring after half-time.
18 SANFL Just OK but certainly not banging on the AFL selection door.
19 SANFL Booted three majors and always looked threatening in the air.
QF SANFL Had one kick and conceded two frees. Thrashed by Hartlett.
SF SANFL Omitted.

September 17 - Delisted.
