Crowd figures, where the supporters of the two teams live locally, are incomparable.

I might be missing something here, but I thought that was Fre_DOh's point.

It doesn't matter how entertaining Freo's "style" is; games between Victorian clubs will always be significantly better attended than games between Victorian clubs and Freo. Ergo, Freo will never "earn" a significant number of games at the MCG. It will always be a number between 1 and 3. Maybe you could argue that WC got more MCG games scheduled for next year because they're more entertaining, but you could just as easily argue that it's a combination of (i) having reached the GF this year and (ii) having been in existence for longer (and having had more success) than Freo, hence having developed a stronger base of supporters residing in Vic.

Really I don't mind going back to Launceston in some way. It is our litmus test, (one that we keep failing badly) but one we must continue to sit until we learn our lessons.
No point having everything go our way and play an injury depleted Hawks off a 6 day break at Subi and beat them by 10 points. We need to travel down to Antarctica, and suck it up and learn.
The lessons are always more stark and seemingly our deficiencies more obvious when playing Hawks at Launceston.
Win or even make major inroads in Launceston and we win that Prelim at Domain this year.

The attendance figures don't have as much influence as the broadcast rights figures. If attendance money mattered, Freo would not be playing in Tassie, Darwin or any other out of the way, hard to get to cowpaddock. Why don't teams like GWS, Suns, Lions, Demons, Carlton etc get asked to play in Bunbury, Geraldton, Broome or Port Hedland? It is all about minimising the travel for the big Vic hopes for the premiership, while making it hard for anyone else to survive a season, as evidenced by the fatigue and injuries that out of Vic teams take into finals series.

We have 4 games in Melbourne. WTF??

Shafted. As usual.

4 games in Melbourne would be good, if it meant the other 19 were at Subi. However there is no hope we will get the same preferential treatment that the ES sides get.

Interesting look at the fixtures for next year.

It would be interesting to see the relevant tables for the last 3 or 4 years.

I've done advanced maths and statistics at university level but can't follow the reasoning in that AFL article - especially that table.

Perhaps that's why the VFL thinks the draw is fair and unbiased?
