Geelong in their successful years, and the Hawks play that very "keep it off" style of game, but they keep the ball in the hands of their most skilful players while doing it. The turnovers in the prelim in our backline were prime examples of why it hasn't worked for Freo, a combination of skill error ( Sheridan) and umpire ignoring free (Mzungu) gives the opposition the sniff they need. Not many other sides play that style successfully, or try to play it. Freo manage to beat most sides in the comp playing that way, through persistence and opposition skill errors, but we have not managed yet to crack the Hawks. There time will come, I just hope Freo are still up the top to take advantage of it.
