The Prince
why is it that only in the AFL, some employees are expected to tolerate:

1. Verbal abuse from their boss (coach), including shouting, aggressive posturing, public disparagement etc

2. To have personal matters exposed or promoted or pilloried by their corporate overarching body for workplace and non-workplace issues e.g. "Second Hawk under police investigation"

3. medical treatment that puts you at high risk of a deterioration in your medical condition (e.g. Fyfe being tarted up to keep playing till his stress response deteriorated into a fracture).

4. Trade restrictions on who you can or can't work for

5. Caps on the salary you can receive by your employer, no matter what your market worth or negotiating skills or position

I find it curious.

That's all nonsense. Bosses shout at people all the time, workers are often put under physical and emotional stress to get a job done regardless of an injury, contracts are not trade restrictions and they're all free to go and play in another league; and there is no cap on how much an individual player can be paid, just on how much a club can spend.

But I'd like to make the point that being at the centre of a rape investigation is not a personal matter. It's a very serious criminal matter.

They are also being paid a minimum of about 250K to kick a footy around. They can go get a "real" job if they like the poor things.

Yeah, I would much rather be yelled at by a boss who is paying me $300k a year than one who is paying me $100k a year.
I'm sure Fyfe made the final call on whether to play or not, and he did say it was ok til he copped a knock to it in the 1st quarter of the prelim.

I told my boss for 300 extra large, he could shout at me all day everyday if he wants. But seeing as he doesn't, he can't.

What about the opportunity to "get on the gear" and only possibly lose your job after the third event?

Interestingly enough, some players revolt against being yelled at unnecessarily. And good on them - they know that it isn't the way to get the best out of them.

Now umpires - there is a really tough job. And I'm sure it doesn't pay that well either.
