TOPIC: Should Pav retire?

I'm wondering what the feeling is amongst Dockerlanders about Pav's future. Personally I'd like him to retire so that we don't see a club icon struggling through another last year. His form of late has been patchy and he has very little left to prove.

I know things change and players come and go, but Freo won't be Freo without Pav.

It depends on how the body is. If we remember to the start of the year when he was fit he dominated. It was only when the hip played up and then the achilles flared up his form dropped. A fit Pav is still awesome but the body is slowing up.

I think Pav and Ross are waiting to see who we can trade into our forward line if we cannot get anyone Pav will go another year to help out our 2 younger forwards

I got sick of defending him from people who clearly didn't watch our games this year. Pav was very good most of the time.

Having said that he should retire.

I hope like hell he plays on. Even when sore as the season wore on still one of our players that nearly always chooses the right option and executes. With the addition of another genuine option up forward to draw the ball (McCarthy), imo even more valuable, as we can become a little pav focussed. Any suggestions on who else we have that would do as good a job as 2nd or 3rd forward.

I don't want Pav to retire this year. The scenario I would like to see play out, is that Pav plays on but not as captain. I would like Pav to be a mentor to a new captain who I think will be Fyfe. I would like Pav to be played according to his age and ability. that may mean that he does not play every game but he he will be there advising and assisting. For me this would a totally fitting end to a player who has given us so much and still has so much more to give in terms of experience and ability. A fitting end to a great player and a wonderful person.

He has most definitely earned the right for this to be completely his call

I still think that he is still right up there in terms of forwards in the comp. Better forward entries would see him go for 3 a game and 45-55 for a reduced season.

Also, his around the ground kicking to players streaming forward is a thing of beauty, in much the same way a Damien Martyn cover drive was

There is no way our team isn't stronger next year with Pav in the 22. Easily good enough. Play on.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I think it's even more important for Pav to play on if we get McCarthy. Not sure McCarthy is ready to be the main man - he was killing it playing alongside Cameron but may not look so flash being double-teamed every week like Pav has been for the last 5 years.
