They did in 2013. Remember A. Pearce, Apeness and Tabener. Trouble is we're quality talls like Jesse Hogan, Cameron, Dixon, Lynch will never get to clubs like Freo because, we're a top 4 team and top 10 draft picks just don't happen. So it's about their development, the ones that we've got. And it just take a few years to develop these KPP. So I don't buy the "draft talls" for the sake of it. You draft the best available.

Carlton didn't get Tomlinson so I am fine we didn't get McCarthy. If he hadn't signed mid-year he would be where he apparently wants to be. It seems the Boyd trade had meant they aren't letting there talls walk. If you think about it you still need 4-5 tall options to cover for injury. They would be crazy to let him go. He will play well next year and then we'll think about it again.

We need to practice goal shooting over summer, rather than lament not getting McCarthy.

As much as we are all (or rather some of us are) smarting about greater western scum knees antics, the horizons are bright for the purple army.

We don't need McCarthy, would have been nice, but our list management is robust and does not rely on a single trade. If they won't accept a good deal now, then they can wait and accept a lesser deal next year or an even lesser one the year after when they have trained him up a little more for us free of charge.

All we need from Tabener (or Clarke or Apeness) is a competitive output and effort. All three are capable of this (despite not performing in 2015).

Blakely, Weller and Langdon will push for selection whilst Bennell will blast into our best 22 and will launch bombs from 50 like rugs a million pushes carpets out the door.

Bring on 2016.

I keep reading on here people saying he re-signed in 2014. My recollection was he re-signed this year for two years until 2017. It was mid-season so he had played a few games.

Ok, found reference, you are correct was 2014, would have been 2 years on top of original 2. Oh well nothing we can do now. GWS take the risk of developing him for another year and then having to trade him next year as he will be uncontracted in 2017

It was on or before early April 2014.

McCarthy had only been at the club for a few months, either just turned 19 (or about to) and signed the contract extension (to END OF 2017) with player managers Silvagni and Lambert (who have both since left GWS).

Most media reports were wrongly stating mid season. They were also spreading rumours of $700k/yr offers from Fremantle, which McCarthy's manager also categorically denied.

he signed up in April 2014 and that was reported at the time. The story is he was told sign or never play AFL. Not sure if thats true but if it is, then his manager failed him big time
