The Free Kick 50m penalty resulting in the 2nd goal to Hawthorn, I can only guess was some push back from Sutcliffe and Hodge took a dive. I didn't see it, and there was no replay of what happened. So I don't know, but I'm quick to make assumptions given the history.

Did anybody at the ground see what happened?

Because if you are going to blame Ballas for his silly Free Kick against him, then why ignore Sutcliffe for that incident, or 211, Suban, Pav and Fyfe who all have far greater Frees Againist them this year than their career averages.
Again, it's always easy for the Media to blame Fremantle and it's individuals, because they can't blame umpiring bias. That does not mean we have to do the same. Just consider the possibility, whether you believe it or not, just consider it. As fans we can, the media and coaches can't (or won't) for many reasons.

The Balla incident that lead to a free was a travesty, all the media agree.

One replay was shown of Sutcliffe bumping Hodge and Hodge taking a dive. Hard to believe Sutcliffes slight bump would have knocked tough man Hodge to the ground. If Ballantyne had done what Hodge had done, he would have been reported for diving.
In all other finals there have been players bumping players away from the ball. Hayden was the only one to be penalised.

Hodge is only tough these days when he is hitting a player who is not expecting it. When someone stands up to him, even a little bloke on one shoulder like Sutcliffe, he falls to the ground squealing for an umpire. The tough man out there on Friday night was the one who played the game out, got the most CONTESTED possesions for the game, and NEVER once squealed to the umps. NATHAN FYFE.

I reckon Ballas opponent would have got much more of the ball than Sutcliffes opponents against Hawthorn.

Wallsys only a month or so back from his very extended sojourns around France, and maybe saving up to go back again, and knows that to get paid as a columnist the has to write some sledgehammer criticism, so he probably missed that Ballantyne was an all-australian last year. He and Barlow are in that age bracket where they have to play leadership roles with McPharlin and Pavlich likely to go, along with the likely exit of Sandilands, Johnson and Mundy in a couple of years time.

Like Larkin, Chris Scott said something similarly mildy lateral on ABC Radio's Saturday Agenda where they had quite a long discussion about the Fremantle vs Hawthorn prelim final (along with McKenna, McLure and Whately).

His comment was that it was the top 15 players that win you games rather than the bottom 6 players who lose you games.

Crumber re:
"One replay was shown of Sutcliffe bumping Hodge and Hodge taking a dive".

Where was this shown?

We'd all like to know coz I like many others have watched the replay and this was not shown on the original official telecast.

I'd love to watch it, so again please enlighten me where can I watch the incident?

Don't know if anybody else saw it, but a few minutes before the Ballas "infringement" he was wrestling with one hawk in our forward 50 and the hawk grabbed him by the throat. There was an "umpire" about 15 metres away (it was actually about 10 metres, but 10 was 15 that night) but he was watching the play at the other end. I gave him a shout but he chose to ignore me

Definitely saw it Duges but I reckon only once and then it wasn't shown again. I was watching on Foxtel, whether that made a difference. I remember thinking it was very soft at the time. i assumed it was for that though in his press interview lyon seemed to allude to Sutcliffe touching Hodge high. It looked to me like a little nudge to the side and Hodge going over. I saw more replays around the incident but never saw the bump again.

Whatever my opinion on Robert Walls, IMO there is little doubt that a small amount of improvement is clearly needed to take the next step, we are close but not quite good enough. Unfortunately to achieve this some of the players that we love may also be part of the problem. An example for me is Mayne one of my personal favorites for his endeavor and defensive running, but he does not hit the score board enough. Mzungu I love and argued that he should have been in the team earlier but turns the ball over to much.
It would also help if we could address some issues in our free kick deficit particularly at pivotal moments. Because at present we can't continue to add 5-10 turnovers through frees to the turnovers that we are already gifting the opposition.

I saw it - I happened to be watching the contest as the free kick was given and was dumbfounded.
Sutcliffe was standing side by side to Hodge. Basically Sutcliffe's right hand went to Hodges left shoulder with no force or intent - just keeping check really. Hodge just sort of dived forward and didnt even really go through with a full on dive. The whistle went almost immediately as Hodge went forward. It was certainly not worthy of a free kick and gives further ammunition to the conspiracy theorists.
There would be behind the goals vision but that hasnt come out - I assume it would make Hodge look like a rat faced weasel f______

The fact that they never showed footage of the incident led me to believe it was another shocker.

The staging by players followed by obliging bias whistle blowing is so disappointing.
The respect that I used to have for a skilled Hawthorn team has sadly gone because of it. I admired Hodge. I now just see a protected thug.
Likewise Josh Kennedy (Slime variety) now appears to play, dive and appeal for Frees because he is taught to do so. On Saturday night, I heard the umpy on one occasion tell Kennedy to just play the ball, when it was obvious he was staging for a free that wasn't there (even in Margett's eyes).

Can't agree on Kennedy. He is regularly held, and is the only slime player to deserve more frees than he gets.

How can there be no vision of the 2nd gifted goal?? It is impossible that not one camera picked it up. Now the three rat Ba$&&3ds that were responsible are all umpiring the gf.

I'm going out on a limb and will be shot down in flames but I hope wc beat hawthorn. I now despise them more than the slime which I never thought possible. I'll take the arrogant pig gloating of wc supporters over the 3 peat best team ever fawning bs we will hear, as they are a bunch of protected snipping cheats. It won't happen though as they have got their A team umpires on board.
