TOPIC: You agree with Robert Walls?

Thought Sutcliffe was ok apart from the kick across goals. He played on Bruest for most of the game who I expected would be their main scoring weapon. Bruest only got one goal and set up another one when he got past Sutcliffe on the boundary line.
I thought Sheridan played well until the awful mistake in the last quarter. Just minutes earlier he had run bouncing the ball through the middle to set up a shot at goal. I remember thinking how confident he looked. His kicking all game was good. I hope the mistake doesn't affect him too much because I believe he has a huge upside.

I don't reckon Walls could pick our 'bottom 6' out of a line up. "That there is Des Headland. No, wait. Luke Webster?"

He's just rubbishing us because we've been knocked out, pay no attention. We have plenty of talent and depth in the side.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I believe Walls in that Ballas has his name marked by the umpires. We have seen in the last few years, he absolutely will not get an even break from the umps. I'm not saying it's fair or right, but it is what it is, IMO: Ballas needs to change the way he plays; become squeakier than squeaky clean. As far as I'm concerned, the bar has been set on Friday night - cause any contact off the ball, and you'll be pinged.

Before the bounce, Hawks players were clearly targeting Ballantynes bandaged shoulder. It's a bit hard to stand there and just take it. All the time it was happening the umpire was clearly watching Ballantyne and ignoring the Hawks. He is clearly marked by the umps but I'm not sure how he changes their perception. Umps should adjudicate what is in front of them but that will never happen.

Spurr_on you must be watching different games than I am.

Freo is a much better side with Ballas in the forward line.

Um...wasn't Ballas an AA only last year? And didn't he come back early from a serious injury to play finals? and didn't he play pretty well against Sydney in the first final (in fact it was agreed that he and Walters saved our bacon in an otherwise poor team performance). And is it his fault if the umpires do not view his play objectively (when Hodge, for example, can do what he likes)? Granted, Ross needs to sort him out a bit for next season, but I wouldn't be letting him go at this stage, when we have so few players who contribute forward of centre. I agree with the general thrust of Walls' other comments.

If you think umps don't have it in for Freo players, then think back to the QF vs Sydney when Pyke literally ran into Fyfe from behind, knocking him to the ground in full view of the ump. With Fyfe on the ground, he gave a WTF look at the ump who did nothing. Ballas is in that same boat of being in the umps bad books. Players may target his shoulder, but if Ballas responds, then he gets the free kick called against him.

Walls is on the money. Ballantyne will never get a fair deal from the umpires because he has form. You're in denial if you think the bottom 6 or 7 players are up to top 4 standard.

So Pike got away with a deliberate push on Fyfe who goes to ground. Nothing.
Ballas gets run into by Smith. Free kick and goal.
WTF

What Mitchell did to Fyfe, What Mumford did to Fyfe, what that hawks player Friday night did to Fyfe, what Hodge did to Wingard, all gutless behind the play, after the play or off the ball incidents were let go with no or minor penalty. Ballas is running to make a lead, bumps into a hawk who is trying to block him, and he AGAIN is the villain. Aussie rules footy is stuffed in a big way if the majority of officials and supporters believe that to be the case.

...and Robert Walls has had how many senior coaching positions? .. And been fired by how many clubs? ... And how long did he last as a television special comments man? ... And now sits among just how many ex-AFL/VFL players and coaches in Melbourne desperately trying to be credible in the media?

Look I just think Ballas best is behind him. Granted he was in the top six only 2 or 3 years ago. For whatever reason he was like a fish out of water even before the shoulder injury this year. I also agree that the Umps have his card marked before he sets foot on the ground, but that will not change unless he has a complete change in his attitude and how he plays the game. With his 'damaged goods' reputation, do you think ANY other club would even consider taking him in a trade? Honestly?

Pretty bloody good effort to top the ladder with 6 or 7 duds in the team and be 9 points behind possibly the best ever team with only 10 minutes to go in a prelim final with our best player hobbling around with a broken leg. Don't think I even need to mention the umpiring.
