To all my fellow Freo fans, we are all a bit traumatised and gutted at the moment, but we will bounce back, we always do, we are very stoic, stubborn and resilient buggers and it takes a lot of hard graft to win a premiership, but it also takes an element of luck and a fair rub of the green too, I often wonder what we have done to pee off the footy gods.
To West Coast fans, I was at a game a few years back, we were hosting Geelong. The guy behind me was a Geelong fan, when it got to half time, he tapped me on the shoulder and demanded that I get him a drink as Geelong had won a premiership and that we were perennial losers. I turned to him and replied that he had a short memory and had forgotten what it felt like as before they had won in 2007, it had been 44 years (1963) since they had any success. He nodded and I didn't hear from him again.
Just remember, before you bag Freo fans, remember how you felt in the lean years especially when you won the wooden spoon in 2010, and spare a thought for what we are going through now. Enjoy your time in the sun because there are 17 other teams out there and you can be a long time out of it.
