TOPIC: WHAT I LEARNT: DOCKERS 2015 SEASON

What I learnt: Dockers 2015 season

Given that my season finished with the Prelim I will choose to ignore next week's GF in this post.

(i) posting with Roman numerals is not one of the iPhone's best features
(ii) I will not let the iPhone beat me into submission.
(iii) the psyche of the average Freo fan has shifted. Once we would savour every win as though it was our last. Now, nothing short of a Premiership is acceptable. I'm a bit saddened by that.
(iv) we have seen the best from our best. Thanks for the highlights Pav and Luke. (And thanks to Croad for coming to Freo and bringing Luke with you as a 'sweetener')
(v) I expect that over the next couple of years we will see that we can't reap what we haven't sowed. Our lack of KP recruitment has to bite unless we pull off some miracles post season.
(vi) Sonson is an elite small forward. I love it when the ball is in his hands.
(vii) If Fyfe can keep fit and grounded we will remain competitive for some time to come.
(viii) glad to get that Roman numeral out of the way.
(ix) the game has become a mess. Something has to be done to spread players out across the paddock. Hopefully the lower rotations will help.
(x) I learnt this a long time ago but it hits me every year. Cricket isn't an option to footy.

(Xi) cricket is not a game its a way of life.
(Xll) time for renewal at President level, Dale Alcock should step up
(Xll) our system will work with some fine tuning in attack but recruiting talent is more important than game plans
(Xlll) Barlow for the doig.

WTB, I’m with you especially (iii), (iv), (v), (vi) and (ix). Thanks for sharing another season, I’m hoping to come back a little less jaded in 2016. And thanks Shane, I’d call you a weasel faced rat f@&er ... but ... well ... oh, never mind.

(xiv) I've enjoyed this year more than any other year because we showed so much determination and kept winning against all that the AFL and media threw against us BUT ...
(xv) I've been ground down by 15 years of poor, anti Freo umpiring, media bias and last Friday night has just gutted me.
(xv) I'm not sure I can put myself through it again next year because I'm not sure that the players can get that winning belief back.

xvi) We have a great team with up and coming talent.
xvii) Being a Siren is a good thing.
xviii) Living in a two team town is the pits - but I love our determination to show our pride in our club.
xix) Dockerland is a sanity saver.
xx) I'm happy with top of the ladder and a prelim.
xxi) Enjoyed all the wins - so many of them.
xxii) Roman Numerals are challenging.

(i) I'm thoroughly sick of the 100point meme - it's lazy sports 'journo-ism'.
(ii) RTB gives the best f-you idiot pressers.
(iii) ATTACK! is almost certainly more energy sapping than defense, our guys knew it mid-season but the adjustment/tapper was cruelled by personnel.
(iv) Fyfe will be Captain.
(v) No SuperPav in 2016 has me more distraught than I ever thought possible - it's just a game after-all.
(vi) Cricket is a waste-of-everyone's time, 2nd only to Soccer.

Call me naïve but I was sure Pav was playing on in 2016.

We all knew 2015 was just a bonus with Luke but the Pav thing has caught me blind sided and really is a punch in the guts.

Footy just won't be the same.

(xxviii) in case we ever needed proof, this year's grand finalists show how important it is to have reliable tall forwards (as has been the case with most GFs over the last 10-20 years)

i. I want us to play exciting, open, free-flowing football.
ii. Normally, I would be proudly wearing Freo colours when out and about right now as a statement of defiance and support. After the Goodes booing, and Friday night's carry on, even that small consolation is currently gone.
iii. Bob Marley helps improve my mood. Cheers Bob.

i) It's not a real surprise that the two Grand Finalists are the top two scoring teams of the year.
ii) WC have shown that with a midfield that can at least halve the contests and an A-grade forward line, you can get away with a B-grade, short back line.
iii) My belief that an A-grade midfield and back line would triumph even with a B-grade forward line was wrong.
iv) Until we get some A-grade forwards on our list (while we wait for some promising youngsters to develop) we will never beat the other top contenders - particularly with our minimum 3 goal umpire-assisted handicap.
v) I cannot for the life of me find a decent reason to want either Grand Finalist to win - but the lesser of two evils would be the Hawks thumping WC if only to shut their smug supporters.

i - I am nearly over the loss and beginning to reflect on what a great season it truly was.
ii - to paraphase Spiderbait - we were f**kn awesome for a lot of it.
iii - AFL do not need look too far to work out why crowd got angry. My dog left the room after the "undisciplined 50" in Q1 (has anyone seen an explanation yet?).
iv - Unfortunately, if we need to rely on umpires - then we arent going to get there (think 2013 and another 50m penalty). Accept it and be grateful for small wins. We can win without them usually.
v - It would be nice to have a power forward next year, but winning every game is not why I follow the Dockers. It should not be at the cost of culture.
vi - Mitchell is a dog, bigger than Pinchy.

Jason, RE: point iii);
Up until Fyfe, according to Bruce, "had a collision with Mitchell", Freo had won 13 of 14 matches.
From round 15, when Fyfe was never really again fit, Freo won 6 of their next 11 games.

My point is, without Fyfe, Freo's midfield is good, but not A grade. With Fyfe it is Elite. Freo's lack of scoring is more to do with poor i50 numbers more than any other factor. Having an elite forward structure will only slightly improve your i50s. It will however improve your goal to i50s goal conversion which the Slime and Hawks do better than Freo.

Hawks are ranked 1st for i50s, the Slime 4th, Freo 14th. i50s are costing Freo 2 goals avg per game when compared to Hawks. Freo averaged 51 i50s up to Round 14, then 46 for the rest of the season.
(NB: Harley Bennell would be a big assist to Freo's i50s.)
Gone to bigfooty where there's fewer Docker Haters.
