I feel Griffin played alright. His two goals came at pretty vital times, even if one was into an open goal. However, neither he nor Taberner have the work-rate outside fifty. Griffin can get away with it as he still creates an option for kicking to a contest and at least gives the defenders something to worry about, but Taberner just wasn't doing it. Wasn't chasing opponents, wasn't getting to the mark in time, and it's no good having him there as a tall option to turn a pack into a contest if he's not even taking marks when he's on the lead a metre in front of his defender.
That being said, if the idea was to get Ballantyne and Walters into the game, they were doing it wrong. Too many times the ball would come out the back of a pack to three hawks players standing there without a freo player in sight. All the hawks had to do in any pack situation was to get the ball out the back.
