So I got the joy of watching Freo have a hard fought win on Saturday at Domain experiencing the atmosphere and tension (no booing near me in - block 130) and couldn't wait to kick back Sunday evening to watch it again at home on the TV (recorded) and get the other perspective which includes commentary.

Now I can accept that not everyone likes the Dockers but I'm a believer of credit where credit is due and I heard little to none of that from Denis and Basil, unless of course the ball was in the hands of a Sydney (even when it wasn't on occasion) player. I didn't experience a sense of objectivity one expects from a commentator and less than a minute after the final siren when Denis stated that; we have two WA teams into Preliminary Finals and we know which was the more impressive - West Coast Eagles! I was more than annoyed.

Now some may think I'm wrong in this, however I think his personal opinion should be left for an more appropriate forum and his commentary should have been focused at the game at hand.

Bad form I say!!

At the risk of sounding ludicrous, has anyone else found that Basil on TV and Basil on 6PR breakfast program are almost 2 different personas? The TV-Basil is annoyingly pro-Weagles, but strangely, the 6PR-Basil sticks up for the Dockers and Roly quite a bit, and is very bullish about our chances at not only making the GF, but also at winning the flag...

You should have heard the radio. I turned over to ABC after not being able to put with PR any longer and was surprised to hear Gerard Whateley and David Parkin calling.
As stated in a previous thread - Gerard has issues with Freo and Ross however I always thought he was a caller able to put his allegiances and personal views aside.
The excitement in his voice when Sydney had the ball was so obvious as compared to when Freo were scoring and moving the footy. He and Parkin never said a positive word about Freo all day and then hammered us in the post match.
Parkin said Freo has too may average players playing to their absolute best and names 5 or 6.
Gerard kept on about the booing and the poor form of the Freo crowd as if it was as bad as the Eagles Sheep.
I just dont get why we are hated so much

Because we are rollers and rockers and we knock teams to the bottom.
That's why the ump paid us the least number of frees on the weekend and we were the only team to win with less frees for than frees against.

It’s just media narratives playing out to their logical conclusions.

No-one expected West Coast to come out and jump Hawthorn the way they did. So it’s a story.

Everyone expected Freo to beat a depleted Swans, and Sydney, to their credit, played incredibly well. It was a brave performance, and a lot of teams would have folded but the Swans kept coming. They deserve some credit for that.

It was fine for Dennis to point those things out - he just chose his moment incredibly poorly. He was so busy painting the picture of the finals, he forgot to address the moment - which was Freo booking a place in a prelim, and being in a great spot for a tilt at the flag.

The other thing that annoys me is a lack of knowledge by commentators. Footy is their job and they should know it all backwards.
Parko was spewing on about Towers not being nominated for a Rising Star this year.

If I must name drop, I was at the VIP function last Saturday, and steves were given our first trophy by the AFL Commissioner. For the minor Premiership.

Would have been nice for the media to report that. There were enough of them there.
