ever wondered why the umps give free kicks for really soft things that don't really affect the play at the time?

are they five we got? well no, in that case. But look on the bright side we are wining anyway and we still have the best defence record over the last couple of years in the whole f'n world. Imagine how good we would look if our forwards got more frees.

There hasn't been one AFL Grand Final where both teams have scored 100 points, so I'm not sure why the commentators keep banging on about more scoring. None of them would say All GF's have been boring because of it.

No team has ever kicked 14 goals in a GF and lost.

"No losing team has kicked 14 goals in a GF and lost."

Honestly, I'm trying really hard to understand what this means, please help me out?

Haha - Well spotted Davo.
How bout, if you kick 14 goals in a GF you shouldn't lose. According to history, that is.

A team wins by scoring more than the opposition. That is the game. All this talk about the minor premier not being good enough because they can't score enough goals is total bs. The two elimination finals were both high scoring but guess what, two losers are now out. Sure it's entretaining footy but if you can't defend its a long preseason. Also the "experts" don't seem to take into consideration the conditions. Most of Sydney's misses were pressure shots on the run in blustery conditions, there where misses on both sides. Keep pumping up the slime and give freo no chance, the underdog tag works well at freo.

What the experts don't do when they trot out the scoring stats is compare those teams that kick big scores against the scores they kick when playing Freo. When you talk about Freo's low scoring compared to the goal scoring machines, it is irrelevant that these teams can kick 100 plus points against St Kilda or the Roo's or anyone else. It's like the warped logic being used over the WCE win last week saying if they could beat the Hawks by that score if Freo play them they have no chance. That's fine except we are not the Hawks and play a different style of football to them. If you were going to look at stats between the two lets look at the win loss ratio over the last ten years and how many times Freo has lost two in a row to those creeps. They wont do it because they don't want to look into that abyss. The fact is when they play us it is very rare to see those big scores. So experts please show the stats as they relate to us and not the whole wide world because when you are talking about Freo there the only stats that matter. Freo Stops those big scores from happening. If Freo takes out the flag this year what will be the point of those losing teams kicking a bazillion points during the season? Stats, stats, stats as I have said before the most important stat is who finished in front at the end of the game. We lead that stat so far this year.

Some more stats relating to scores kicked when comparing Freo to the Slime;

So far in 2015, in games when the Free Kicks end up in the negative for the team (ie. Frees For - Frees Against);
Freo: *15-11-4-0, Avg points For 85.1, Avg points Against 72.8. Percentage 116.85%
Slime: 7-3-3-1, Avg.For 84.7, Avg Agnst 81.6 = 103.85%
(*NB:15-11-4-0 is 15 games, 11 wins, 4 losses, 0 draws. Also I have excluded Freo's B-Team, Round 23 vs Port Adelaide from these statistics)

So far in 2015, in games when the Free Kicks end up in the positive for the team;
Freo: 7-7-0-0, Avg.For 85.3, Avg.Agnst 58.6 = 145.61%
Slime: 16-14-2-0, Avg.For 115, Avg.Agnst 66.6 = 172.11%
There are some thoughts/concerns that the Slime have been having big 4th quarters while Freo have been unable to or are putting the cue in the rack. If we look at the stats up to the end of the 3rd quarters then we get; Freos percentage 179%, Slimes percentage 158%.

In addition to the above stats, Freo's biggest 4th quarter wins have all come in close games, when a big 4th quarter was required. Freo's biggest 4th quarter losses have come in games where the result was pretty much already determined by the 3rd quarter scores.

That is, the data strongly correlates to Freo putting in a big 4th quarter only when it's required.

I recall this time last year how Freo was struggling and limping in to the finals with injury and fatigue issues.
Many felt that Pavlich, McPharlin, Sandi, Johno were at the end of their careers and many pundits suggested Freo had missed their premiership window.
I have a little more faith in Roly and his player management strategies, than I do in theories such as you need 100 points to win the Grand Final.

Yes DK it shows that Roly & co are still willing to learn, and are not the stick in the mud, blinkers on no change at any cost group that a lot of people would have us believe. We are still the most successful side in 2015, and only need to continue that trend for 2 more games. With, as you pointed out, a squad in much better condition than last year. Don't forget also that Mikey Walters came into the finals well underdone after missing a big chunk of the season.

Most of Sydney's misses were pressure shots on the run in blustery conditions, reminds me that in the 2013GF, the conditions at the MCG were swirly (and that certainly wasn't evident from the TV vision). Fyfe's (and others') misses early in the game were, I'm still convinced, affected by the breeze. Our players have had precious little experience at the 'G, and they are not allowed much more than a pre-game wander upon the hallowed turf. It's no wonder they are at a disadvantage going to Melbourne.

And most of Freo's goals on Saturday were on the run or set shots in blustery conditions, but no credit given for Freo's accurate goalkicking in such poor conditions, only how unlucky the Swans were that the conditions didn't suit accurate kicking for goal. Freo lost a final in Adelaide in, I think, 2006 in blustery conditions, that possibly cost them a place in the GF. They also lost a GF in 2013 due to poor goalkicking in blustery conditions. I never heard Den and co saying how unlucky Freo were then. All they could say was Freo would never win big games while their skills were so poor. How about applying the same standard of execution of skills to the Swans.
