Interestingly 3 of the 4 finals this weekend were won by the underdogs going on the betting odds. We were the only favourites to win.
We will be the underdogs in the prelim no doubt regardless of wether it's Hawthorn (most likely) or Adelaide even though its in Perth. No forwards no chance will be the mantra from the experts. I'll accept the underdog status with open arms.

Yet 90 points would have won 3 of 4 finals on the weekend, and the 4th was played between 2 teams who finished in the bottom half of the 8 because they couldn't stop teams scoring against them, and still managed only a goal or so over 100 points.

The total we score doesn't matter when the game plan involves defending a lead.

Here's the 3 step run down for those who haven't been paying attention.

1. Attack until it's time to defend.
2. Attack again when the defending doesn't work.
3 .Hope the defending works.

This is why Matthew Lloyd and others, have been really annoying me with their declarations that Freo can't win and beat the likes of Hawthorn and the Slime if they can't score 100 points.

Hawthorn, so far this season have now scored less than 100 points in 4 of their 9 games against the Top8 teams (with scores of 69, 53, 88, 64). The Slime have scored less than 100 points in 7 of their 11 games against the Top8 teams (with scores of 87, 81, 75, 90, 74, 69, 96).

So the facts are, so far in 2015, those two teams (combined) have scored less than 100 points in 11 of their 20 games against the Top8 teams.
(NB: Fremantle have scored over 100 points against Top8 teams 3 times, the Slime 4 times, Hawthorn 5 times).
(NB: Freo's Free Kick tally vs the Slime and Hawthorn is a combined 44 Frees For to 73 Frees Against).
Gone to bigfooty where there's fewer Docker Haters.

Once people come up with a great sounding idea they generally stick despite overwhelming contrary evidence for two reasons:

(i) They came up with it
(ii) They look like idiots if they change their minds.

In the case of football commentary teams there is an additional factor that generally works against reality checking:

(iii) We all agree with each other therefore our opinions are be insightful and true.

Ninth eighthmond showed this year how you only need to score fifty-odd points to beat Hawks. Unfortunately Freo has historically had trouble keeping Hawks below our score.

But come to think of it, its been a long time since they've played Freo here so who knows!

We'll be playing Adelaide for that I am sure. If you were to suspend the fact Hawthorn have been very good in recent years and just looked at the game on Friday night for what it was you would say Hawthorn are in trouble.

Smith and Gunstan cant walk. Lake and Frawley are an embarrassment and their ruck division cant compete against Sandilands.

Hodge is distracted.

Hawthorns prospects are as bright as thermal coal.
