It will be a ground ball, run and carry day - long kicks up the wing are pointless and there'll be more spillage over the boundary than normal. Sound familiar? Yep, just like last night - one team was forced into the long bomb up the wing, the other ran/linked up the corridor.
Last night showed me how important momentum is this year - get 6 points from an opportunity and you're pretty sure you can do it again and again; muddle about and bust your butt to end up with a single just makes you feel getting 6 is a bridge too far. Everyone for the Wee-Poos that normally get them going (Hodge, Lewis, Roughhead) were pointless - it was only that knee-poking knob Mitchell that had any real effect. When Cyril ran out of juice, the Wee-Poos were only filling time waiting for their flight back to Mommy.
The Slime, the Eastern Swannies and (yes) the Wee-Poos are coming off a 60+ point win last week - half our team is coming of a near 70 point drubbing. Does 'fresh' counterbalance 'belief' - not sure, but it certainly doesn't add to momentum. You've got to start again from uncertainty. We'll see today - and tonight - what this all leads to. I'm not convinced that smart footy will beat genuine confidence.
