I beg to differ. Clark had agreed to a deal with Fremantle at the start of the trade week. Melbourne came in very late in the week with an offer for Clark, after talks stalled and Bond started threatening to send Clark to the pre-season draft. We had no position in the pre-season draft to be making that sort of claim. Bond was gambling Clark. Clark didn't want to be gambled.

What I saw after the game in our QF against Syd, paints a different picture to where Jetta is going. Interestingly, all of Walters, Pearce, Jetta and Goodsy were having a chat in the post match on the ground. While it's only an observation, I would have thought Jetta is perhaps more at ease with our indigenous boys then the Eagles. Furthermore, with the likes of Stone and Kirk on our coaching staff, ex-Sydney, would also sway his decision.

Interesting that Giants departing back line coach Chad Cornes has come out and A; acknowledged that the Giants should play hard ball and B; that McCarthy has a girlfriend back in Perth and struggled the latter half of the year because he was home sick. On balance I think he's done McCarthy a favour by getting it out there and keeping the talk in the public eye.

How good would we have thought Bondy was, if he had got the Clark deal done, only to have Clark chuck it in the next year costing us the pick and still no key forward. The vagaries and and inconsistency of recruiting are much harder than we imagine. What seems to me to be the most important factor is development of your available talent and culture. Two factors that we seem to be achieving.
The icing on the cake would be short circuiting the draft process and securing McCarthy as a better bet than our speculative pick in the draft. How to get Bennell as well that will take a miracle. Clubs now have the ability to trade more future picks away, it is a dangerous game if they don't come off.
I too would love for Bondy to have managed to secure some of the KPP prospects that we have chased, but at least we havn't sold the farm. Buddy and Tippett don't seem to have been a resounding success at the Swans.

It seems likely that Leuenberger will be here next year, which I think is great. It seems likely that Bennell will be here next year, which I think is awesome and likely to be expensive in terms of trade deals.

Schultz signed with Port after Freo went cold on their offer - why did we go cold? Presumably because McCarthy has agreed to our terms and wants to come over. Bondy need to get this deal done, but I am worried about the cost in terms of trade deals. I am also aware that Freo have made a massive Tom Boyd like offer to Jesse Hogan and that it may just happen - so that will also be expensive in terms of trade deals. I am also aware that Stevie J has been sounded out and could be with us next year.

So there could be a massive list change next year - but at what cost?

Who's that young bloke from Gero who wanted to get back into footy after some troubled times - we should be looking at him also.
