Is anyone else as horrified as me to learn that just two drinks over the course of an evening will give you a blood alcohol reading of 0.068? Gadzooks, if a fit football player can blow that after "a couple", then I'd be over the limit from sniffing a barman's armpit.
It's a terrible thing not to take people at their word, but I just had to find out the truth - here's a table of how many drinks you need to consume over a set period of time to blow a particular BAC (taking into account gender & weight):
www.moderation.org/bac/bac_tables.pdf
Hodge is 90kg, or about 200lbs.
Over a period of one hour, he would have needed to take at least four drinks. As the time period increases, so does the number of drinks - over six hours, he would've needed nine drinks.
Conclusions:
1. Luke Hodge is not telling the truth, or was too smashed to remember.
2. The AFL are standing by silently while the captain of a premiership club is given no sanction whatsoever for drinking and driving during the season.
3. Boo

Maybe he drank the two drinks at the set of lights before the breathalyser.

I am no Hawks fan, but .068 is not high. DUI is .08. As for mentioning Ratten, cheap shot, his son was in a stolen car speeding.

However I think the leadership team is not doing their job if he doesn't get 4weeks. Throw the book at him, and a couple of empty stubbies.

It's high enough to warrant $450 & 10 demerits, Muzza.
But the point is, he's not being truthful about his behaviour.
I'm not surprised the club is trying to move on quickly. I am surprised that no one in the meedja has picked up on his dodgy confession.

Muzza, for the record:
.068 is above .05 and is against the law, which is why Hodge was fined and got 10 demerit points clipped. To some people, it might be a point of contention, but given that .05 is the limit, there is evidence that anything above can impair judgement when driving. Hodge's own words were that he made the wrong decision: he should have taken a taxi.

As for mentioning Brett Ratten's son in a previous post, his name is Cooper, and yes, the car Cooper was in was speeding and stolen, but the police also identified drugs and alcohol as contributing factors to the crash. In your eyes, it may be a cheap shot to mention it, but in the context of Hodge being picked up for being over the .05 limit, it's not irrelevant to the conversation, especially since Ratten is part of the Hawks family now.

On this point I agree: that the Hawks will do everything in its power to win the media war about whether or not Hodge should be suspended on the eve of the finals. How about appearing at half-time on Friday Night Footy and giving his side of the story and being contrite? Who else would Ch. 7 extend that privilege to? My guess is no one, unless your name is Luke Hodge.

BTW, part of the media spin: 'a couple' (meaning 2) drinks = .068? Baloney. What was he drinking then, rice wine?

Did he look at Clarkson in the eye?

Irony's cousin is hypocrisy:
Hodge sledges Motlop for drinking before a game:

If Geelong has a 'no ****heads' philosophy by suspending Motlop, then the Hawks have a 'look, a bear!' philosophy when it comes to finals.

You think that was a cheap shot Muzza, Hodge would have been aware of the impact on Brett Ratten of losing Cooper where alcohol and driving were contributing factors, so why on earth would Hodge - a leader of the club - get behind the wheel of a car whilst being under the influence?
I beg to differ.

Another example of the footy media looking after their mates. Motlop and co have been absolutely pilloried by media and luminaries of the game like Hodge, yet when the boot is on the other foot, the media have a love in to protect their mate's reputation. Disgraceful by the media, AFL and Hawthorn along with Hodges crocodile tears apology. BULL$HIT all the way.
