If I listen to the media, then I would probably think Freo are lucky to be on top of the ladder and Freo don't have the scoring capacity to beat the Slime or the WeePoos.
So, given how much I know Morgan loves a good free kick discussion, I thought I would throw up some Free Kick statistics for the Top3 and their games so far in 2015 against the other Top8 teams, to see how Freo have faired so far.
Freo have played 10 games against other Top8 teams. Our record is 6 wins, 4 losses. (ie. 10-6-4)
Freo have won the Free Kicks in 1 game, and lost the Free Kicks tally in the other 9. (ie 10-1-9).
Freos Free Kick tally for those Top8 games is 160 Frees For vs 221 Frees Against, a differential of -61. (ie. 160-221=-61).
In Home games, it has been 4 games, 2 wins, 2 losses, for 82 Frees For vs 96 Against (ie. 4-2-2, 82-96=-14)
In Away games, 6-4-2, 78-125=-47.
The Slime;
Games Played 10-5-5. Games Frees Won 10-6-4, Frees Tally 176-176=0, Home Games 5-3-2, 85-68=17, Away Games 5-2-3, 91-108=-17
The WeePoos;
Games Played 8-6-2, Games Frees Won 8-5-3, Frees Tally 138-122=16, Home Games 4-2-2, 70-62=8, Away Games 4-4-0, 68-60=8.
(Also, Hawthorn lost the Fee Kicks in all 3 games against other Top8 Vic teams, but won the Free Kicks in all 5 games vs interstate teams).
Again, make of those stats as you wish. For me, it suggests that, although Freo have had the hardest draw with 6 Away games (vs Top8) and no help with Free Kicks, we have still finished with a respectable 6 wins from 10 games against other Top8 teams.
