TOPIC: Poor Recruiting Comes Back To Bite Us

It is a sad indication of our recruiting when we desperately rely on a couple of guys in their early to mid 30s to be the best we have in the forward line and back line.
Pav and McPharlin have been absolute champions of our club but the fact that we have only found one decent recruit who is about 14 years younger than them and just finding his way in the game is a disgrace. We've become so strapped that Pearce after about eight games after being recruited as a backman and playing in the backline has been thrown up forward in the sheer hope that he may become a target. It should not have been like this.
Al this bull***t from Bond that there were no good young KPP in the last couple of drafts pees me right off. It's already been stated that this years draft is light on, especially for KPP's and with our position on the ladder they'll be gone before we get to them. What, are there no good mature age players in the minor leagues? At least draft SOMEBODY, even if they don't work out.
We have an over abundance of midfielders, some of whom deserve but can't get a game and others that get a game and don't deserve it. We continue to show that no matter how good your midfield is big marking key forwards are still needed.

And if Bond keeps failing to lure anyone over here then how does he keep his job.

Other than Darling, who would you have drafted?

Who would you have offered for a trade, and who do you reckon we could have got?

Is there a key forward we didn't throw money at?

Usually things are easy in retrospect, but in Freo's case, when you're drafting outside the top 10 for many consecutive years, it's not even easy in retrospect.

Apparently the 'system' is designed to give every side a decent chance at winning a GF now and then.

I hate to say it, but I've said it before, whoever recruits for the Slime is their best player.

Morgan, it's not our job to recruit, but the people who are doing it for Freo have left some 'gaps' which may have seen our GF door banged shut. I hope not.

I think in general our recruiting has been fantastic in the last ten years (especially considering the first ten years...) There hasn't been much success with big young forwards unfortunately and I think there was alot of hope Apeness would come good but that is looking less and less likely. The draft is obviously a bit of a lottery and that is why so much emphasis is now placed on recruiting ready made players when you can.
I would have thought our club and state would sell itself, especially with the money we apparently have to offer, but no one seems to want to come here. Which makes me wonder what it is and whether it's the person doing the selling.

Settle down chaps, tall forwards are hard to find but it is strong midfielders that control games. Geelong are the classic example of this. They still have a potent forward line but once their gun mids were gone they quickly dropped back to the pack. It's what has kept the Hawks so dangerous even losing a gun like Fraklin from their forward line up
We do need some quality talls forward and I hear many calling for that, but no one seems to have an answer. Looking at mature recruits playing in the two's may be our best option if we can't trade or draft a couple

I would say our recruiting was going fine. We have a number of tall options in the shed. Maybe our game plan needs a tweak to make our forwards come alive again.

Morgan, had we traded to improve our draft position or drafted the best available I estimate up to ten we could have had.

Up to ten. To think we have failed because Cloke didn't come here is nonsense.

In our history we have never managed a balanced team except in 2006.

It's easy to say in hindsight. Somewhere some recruiter is still telling his mates that Richard Tambling really was a better prospect than Matthew Pavlich at the same age.

It's not about hindsight its about foresight.

Marco Paperone in 2012 which is the time people starting ringing Bond about a kid called McGovern.

I think Shane Kersten was that year to or the year before.

And yes Jayden Pitt over Darling was a beauty too.

I have named seven Morgan......all available to us - we didn't even need to better our draft position, maybe for McCarhy by a couple.
Bond is negligent.
