Of the top four, only Freo is worth less than the sum of its parts.

Hawthorn and Sydney are about equal.

West coast are way over.

This sucks!

I learnt that our weakness is kicking the ball into our inside 50. As soon as opposition teams start marking our inside 50 forward entries they rebound spread and score against us. This is our biggest problem that we have to overcome. This includes missed shots - but at least then we can set up a defence against this. Maybe this loss can spring us into action it feels like we gave been treading water for the last few weeks

We are a poor skilled side!!
It hurts. We are going to always be the bridesmaid until we can kick consistently and accurately under pressure. The Eagles down the road were atrocious under worsfold , then Simmo arrives and an unbelievable turn around in skills.
Did Simmo have better skilled players to work with or was it a focus of his coaching.

I learnt this in Round 8, not Round 21, but anyway...

The last time Fremantle lost 2 in a row, they won their next 8.

It's Simmo now is it?

Rounds 1-9 or thereabouts we looked highly skilled and "Simmo" was the crab down the road.

Skills are in the eyes of the beholder. Ask Hawthorn supporters what they thought of their players skill levels on Friday night.
Its there and our best is good enough - we just don't see it often enough these days.

I don't think its skill level, I think its just lack of thought and carelessness - I don't think they think its a problem

The team mojo has gone, never mind the swim in the ocean after the game, we need a bbq, a few beers some good music to loosen up a bit. The skill is within but everyone is tight as a drum.

In the same way that I suppose people said we stole the Richmond game this was definitely the one that got away. For seventy percent of that game we were clearly the better side, except at the end and on the scoreboard obviously. The game should have been iced by three qtr time.
If flags were won on effort and desperation then we'd have won the last couple..... I still think we look better with as tall a forward line as possible so I'm clinging to the idea that Clarke should come in and we try three ruckmen with two resting forward. That's if Clarke is okay. I still think Clancee should come back simply because of his kicking ability and maybe play him across half forward. Muzungu looks badly out of form but I don't see any option but to persevere as he may need time to get back into the swing of things. Deboer is unfortunately just not quite up to it and Crozier and Sheridan are on borrowed time. D. Pearce is badly out of touch but also needs persevering with because we really have no choice. I know Roly is big on earning your spot but I think at any other team both Blakely and Grey would have debuted by now. Fyfe needs to be played on the ball full time to get a bit of touch back.I would also like to know what has happened with Mayne's goalkicking in the last 2 years.
The big disappointment in all of this is we could have rested Mundy etc. for the final round but now we can't obviously.
I am beginning to wonder if Lyon is a coach that will take us to a flag or if he is working wonders with a limited team. Either way, much of the angst felt by dockerlanders is magnified by the rise of west coast, who unfortunately look a real flag threat to me. But we have got ourselves in this position by playing good footy and top spot is still ours if we want it. Finals experience counts and we have been treading water for a few weeks waiting for the real stuff to begin and this may be weighing on us mentally.

agree that crozier, d pearce, mzungu and de boar do not do enough. Also I would put Nick Suban in the category - these players just do not hurt the opposition either with goals or run or disposable - despite suban being a fantastic kick he just does not hit the scoreboard - What about Jabob Ballard I have seen him BOG for peel form many weeks?

Don't know that the A Pearce Mark, Free kick, take your pick was the turning point. There were a number of our own making that could have equally turned the game. The D Peace 50m down the middle of the ground reminiscent of Houli's in the Richmond game, Chris Mayne's set shot, Mzungu's play on in the middle of the ground, Walters handball in the middle of the ground, Walters errant pass after being awarded 50m.
After half time our skill level and decision making was not up to scratch. Our first quarter and early in the season, skill execution is the level that is required. Pre Season great fanfare was made of the fact that we did a lot of ball work, and was identified at the end of last season as an area that needed work. I hope they intend getting the balls out over the next few weeks.
I also hope that there is sense of urgency that comes with the do or die nature of the coming weeks, that spikes our players into playing at their full potential for an entire game.

I'm going to disagree on Mzungu. For the last few weeks I've been thinking, "He's lost it", but yesterday he actually looked ok to me. Made one really bad blunder, but looks likely to step up in the next couple of weeks. And Barlow did a great job of being in all the right places.

As to the forward line, there was a recent thread about the number of score assists from Pav. And as for the opposition getting the ball out of defence easily, we have this bloke, Ballas, who does defensive pressure better than anyone.

If you think they will debut a new player at this time of year you're kidding yourself. The game yesterday was easily winnable but Freos execution left the door open and North was desperate for the win. Personally I wasn't too upset given the control we had for the majority. Tidy up those crappy turnovers and sink those easy goals and we are in with a real shot. I think it's going to be a ripper finals series and Freos experience will go a long way.
